Wynona Riders vocalist joins Dead Kennedys

Ron "Skip" Greer, former vocalist of Easy Bay pop punk outfit The Wynona Riders has joined the Dead Kennedys as touring vocalist. The news comes just days after the bitter departure of previous vocalist Jeff Penalty last week. You can check out a Wynona Riders performance here. The Riders were previously signed to Lookout!.

Greer will make his official debut on the band's upcoming tour in support of Milking the Sacred Cow. The band also noted:

The bands previous singer, Jeff Penalty, has been unavailable because of numerous other projects he is working on, and the scheduling conflicts became impossible to work around. Jeff also expressed that he was not interested in working on new material, something the other band members were keen on exploring.

I wish someone would write a sitcom about this band now, it's fucking hilarious anyway, but it would be much better in front of a live studio audience!

got an original pressing of "Fresh Fruit.." the other day for $10. Then I got Billy Bragg's "Live and Dubious EP" for $6. Both were in perfect condition. Looney Tunes is a great place for records.

Wait...Wasn't one of the reasons Brandon Cruz left was their lack of interest in new material? Now it's because the singer doesn't want to do new material? OH man, I bet they were embarrassed. "Guys if we just kept the other singer this would never have occurred". Oh zany Dead Kennedy's, you're running out of excuses for why no one wants to work with you.

I did want to do new material. Ray gave me a cd with 2 or 3 tracks with no vocals. They were pretty bad. They were never mentioned by him again. Jeff wanted to do new songs, too. They are not telling the truth. Jello wasn't right about everything, just as these guys aren't right about everything they said about Jello. All of them are pretty ridiculous, but at least Biafra still calls me and keeps in touch. I only hear from Ray when something is posted on wikipedia and attributed to me. It's a joke.

Tarnishing one of the greatest bands of all time's legacy. Jello is and was always right about these guys........it's a shame too since they're very talented musicians.

I, like most people, stopped paying attention to the Kennedys a loooong time ago.

But for the record, the actress' name is Winona, not Wynona. That spelling alone warrants a beating.

If I remember right, they reversed the "i" & "y" in the first & last names to try to avoid a lawsuit from Ms. Ryder.

I believe that you are incorrect. The reversal of the "i" and the "y" are meant to be funny in that they create a sexually suggestive double entendre. Not too clever.

I don't know, that's what I remember from back then, but I may have just been making it up. Doesn't matter, their "Pack Rat" single is really super good, and they were always a super fun live band. I wasn't into their last record though...

i didn't see this coming... i LOVE(D) the wynona riders. and i was digging what skip was doing w/ Surface Wound (w/ ex-Too Much Joy). if the band were to release any "new" material w/ skip i would definitely check it out. only because it's skip.
