Jubilee (NIN, Queens of the Stone Age, ex-Icarus Line) launch digital store

Los Angeles' Jubilee, featuring Aaron North (NIN/The Icarus Line), Michael Shuman (Wires On Fire/Queens of the Stone Age), and Evan Weiss (Wires On Fire), have opened up a digital store on their website. The band's debut release, Rebel Hiss, is available now to download track by track. Most newsworthy, however, is that the group has adopted a subscription model. For a flat sum, you can "subscribe" to the band's entire output for the year (slated to be two more singles and a full length album), and are entitled to bonus materials and an exclusive seven inch.

In the wake of alternative distribution methods by Radiohead, Saul Williams, and NIN, this business model more closely represents seven-inch singles clubs in the 90s through various indie record labels. For more information, you can visit the band's website. Nine Inch Nails are slated to play Lollapalooza in Chicago this year, while Queens of the Stone Age will be playing Reading/Leeds.

If they actually stick with it and put out that much stuff this could be worth it, but then again the buddyhead site is updated about once a year now so timeliness is not their strong suit.
Also, I like Wires on Fire quite a bit.

this band is actually really good. which isn't that surprising considering the track record (wires of fire, icarus line, qotsa).

a few weeks ago i started a petition to bring back buddyhead gossip. only two people commented, one being travis keller, who was (not surprisingly) a dick about it.

After gaining Aaron's permission to interview him whilst he was still in NIN, i sent Aaron and Travis (and Troy) a bunch of questions for them to fill out over a month ago. After about 4 emails during during that one month, reminding them that they owed me an interview, Travis came back to me with the following message:

"you're annoying and ask SHITTY questions so no one is answering them dude.

Get over it. And get over The Icarus Line being over. WE DID.

Troy's not. Aaron's not and I'm not. TAKE A HINT DORK. Not replying to you anymore... in fact, if you keep emailing me or my friends or show up at any of our shows I'll have our lawyer slap a restraining order on you. So fuck off prick"

here is my "interview" with aaron/travis. in all honesty, i thought the interview was complimentary, straight up, and wasn't geared towards gossip. some of it may have been a bit personal, but that is only because i have followed the band for so long.

1. With Web2.0 having the effect of undermining so many established companies by levelling the playing field, and with so many artists and bands deciding to go it alone, why do you think an artist would want to be signed to your record label as opposed to doing it all by themselves? Also, what steps do you take to ensure that you stand out from all the other record labels out there?

2. What steps have you taken to counter the encroaching effects of downloads over CDs and appropriate these changes in music delivery as part of your business strategy?

3. Tell us a little bit about Buddyhead and how it got started. What was the basis for its formation and who was involved?

4. With your online antics having the effect of ruffling a few feathers within the music industry, why do you wage a war against mediocre bands and continue your feuds with many of the industry's established acts (such as Limp Bizkit)? Knowing that you can never really change people, what do you hope to achieve and how do you think this has affected your standing within the music industry?

5. Where does talent come from and how do you know if someone is "talented" or not?

One thing I really like about Buddyhead is your choice of talent and the manner in which it promotes Buddyhead as an umbrella concept - with resources split (amongst others) towards creating an e-zine, a fashion label emporium, a record label and your very own infamous gossip column. Tell us, how do you find all this talent and what avenues do you explore in order to be able to fulfil your recruitment needs. Do you pay your artists, and if not, how do you compensate them for their time and efforts?

When exactly did the dream die for Aaron, and should circumstances ever permit it, will he ever go back?

Do you think the Chinese Democracy album will ever see the light any time soon and what do you think of the music tracks aired so far?

33. What do you think of band reunions? Do you think the original lineup of Guns N Roses should reform and what other bands would you like to see reform?
