Weezer promises "Blue" and "Pinkerton" influences

As Weezer gears up for the release of their third self-titled album on June 24, 2008, the label has revealed some information about the sound of the record as well as the track listing and versions of the album that will be released:

Comprised of sessions produced by Rick Rubin, Jacknife Lee and the band itself, the album is adventurous and undeniable Weezer.

Great albums are culminations of the past with an eye to the future, and the Red Album has parts "Blue Album," "Pinkerton," and forges new territory with all four members taking turns singing lead.

The normal version of the album will feature ten tracks, with a special "deluxe" edition featuring an additional four songs.

i love albums with around 10 tracks. i get too overwhelmed if there's a lot of songs, especially if it's filler material. there are some albums that would have been way better as a whole if they cut out 2 or 3 suck songs.

I would mostly agree, they need his backups and synth. Some songs have been okay since he's left but you wonder what he contributed since Rivers wrote most of the songs back then and he writes them all now I assume.

Pinkerton rocks so much. Blue is pretty good too, but Pinkerton is less cheesy.
I liked that Pork and Beans song. It sounded like a return to form. Make Believe was terrible.

i am hopeful as the band hasn't released anything listenable other than blue and pinkerton. the new tune is good - el scorcho meets in the garage. campy lyrics were always weezer's thing so i don't mind it.

this will be a good summer album, i bet. but i don't like the idea of anyone else but rivers singing, unless it's matt sharp.

Let's just make this clear, using distortion and similar sounding riffs as The Blue Album (sorry musicians I don't know the technical term for the sound) does not make an album similar to that album. "Pork and Beans" is clearly trying for the sound but only time will tell if it has the heart.

I'm sure, though, with all his songwriting prowess, Rivers could have written the song differently/better to make it apparent that it's satirical, instead of coming off like he's retarded.

In all honesty, myself being the huge Weezer fan I am (including 'Make Believe'), 'Pork' is perhaps the worst song they've ever written.

Pork and Beans doesnt sound anything like the Blue album or Pinkerton, and on an album with ten tracks, having one of the songs already suck is bad news

All due respect here, but...did you even listen to the song? It's pure Blue Album! Granted, it's not quite there lyrically, but even the Blue Album had cheesy lyrics. Most everything is there, though...the four chord, tuned down a half step guitar, the plinky verse into the sorta grungey chorus with a big pop hook. Self deprecating lyrics, backup falsettos, even the little bit of whine in the vocals during verses, that hasn't been around since Pinkerton. So, while you certainly don't have to like this song, saying it sounds nothing like the first two is kinda like saying you don't hear the Beatles influence on What's the Story Morning Glory.

Well, I know I'm not the only one. I'd never confuse it for a Blue Album b-side or anything because the production is a little more modern and the lyrics aren't as good...but listen to the guitar tone and the verse vocals, and then listen to "In the Garage" or "The World Has Turned and Left Me Here"

That's what I'm fearing!
But, I hated Beverly Hills, and still managed to like 1/3rd of Make Believe.
So, maybe I can at least like some of the new record?

Blue Album,Pinkerton, and Green Album were all great albums (talk shit who cares,because i dont.) in their entirety Maladroit was a little out there but still had some good tracks same with Make Believe. The new single is damn good. The timbaland, and oakley references are a bit cheesy and the chorus may be a bit out there but i can't help but play it over and over in hopes that this record is just as good as the single.

I think the chorus has blue album qualitys..... really easy chords, a good TWO part chorus (second part where they add more backups), and the good back up vocals. Lyrics are as cheesy as Beverly Hills, but with a stellar memory.

The guy who's recording my band, his band just recorded with Brain Bell(his first major job as a producer).... and there better then Weezer now a days, check them out.... There damn good

these past few albums have been so bad that its made me realize the green album is actually kinda good. it at least doesnt have the completely goofass horrible lyrics of the later later years and the way every song is so strictly formulated borders on hilarious.
