Less Than Jake to release "GNV FLA" in June

Less Than Jake have revealed the title and release date for their upcoming album. The record is their first non-major label album since 2000's Borders and Boundaries which was released on Fat.

The record is titled GNV FLA and is due out June 24, 2008. Like the band's recent reissues, the record is due out on the band's own Sleep It Off Records.

The release adds:

[GNV FLA is] a return to form that could be called the "traditional" Less Than Jake sound, complete with their trademark bouncy ska grooves and horns galore, GNV FLA comes full circle with the band's beginnings, when they were scrapping up money from gigs to augment their Pez collections.

The album was recorded with Matt Allison (Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, The Falcon) at Atlas Studios in Chicago. You can check out the artwork on the release page.

That's not possible.

Even though In W/ The Out Crowd wasn't great, it was 10X better than the new Goldfinger. Landmines and Landslides was at least a good song as were a couple others that I can't remember the name of.

Yeah, I'm gonna go right ahead abd be hopeful. "Bouncy" is not a term i'd attribute to LTJ at their prime though. I always thought they were best with rough edges. Hopefully, it doesn't pander as bad as that last RBF album. God what an embarrassment that was.

I know this record will be good. LTJ haven't lost it, that last record was garbage because they had half the songs written by other people.

Like all music, DVDs, I haven't watched it since I bought it way back when. But it is pretty good. Awesome concert footage from back when they used to do awesome gimmicky shit on stage, also on the commentary they rip on all their crappy songs and fat people in the crowd. Oh and the Gainesville Rock CIty video is a classic.

Less Than Jake is fully aware of how bad their music has become. Fully witnessed by their set at the Fest that featured no song less than 9 years old. I believe, if they are capable of writing songs like they did 10 years ago, this album will be as close to Losing Streak as possible.
I don't know if they even want to play music like that but they seem acutely aware that it's what fans want to hear.

I think LTJ are in a weird position where their fans don't want new songs. They just want to hear stuff Hello Rockview and older. So whatever they put out will inevitably be labeled as "bad" whether it is warranted or not.

maybe but they deliberately misled people about what IWTOC would sound like... look at the one link that had "sample" audio from the album... they released twenty seconds of the ONLY ska-sounding part of the entire album

I'm excited. Anthem wasn't as bad as lots of people say, so I only count the most recent one as a bust. Other than that, I like every single LTJ record.

I agree. People give Anthem too much shit. It's a solid record. I find myself listening to it as much as Pezcore and Losing Streak. Their latest album was definitely their worst record, but there are a few songs I enjoy.

I hate to admit that i like LTJ way more than Slapstick. Does anyone have that green Slapstick cd? its got the worst production ive ever heard.

That production is terrible. Try putting one of those songs on a mix cd, it fucks the whole thing up. It is a fantastic cd though, and I always thought if it got a proper remastering it would be the best ska/punk cd ever.

LTJ is not better than Slapstick. Slapstick is one of the best third wave bands ever. The self titled is one of the best albums ever. Considering most of that shit was written in High School and I'm pretty sure they were getting a lot of label offers before they imploded.

Since 2000, I've been emailing Vinnie every so often with the suggestion that they find another bari sax player. No response. But they did put out a remix album to B is for B-sides after I told him the horns sounded off and needed some remixing. It's kind of like finding a Djinn and asking for selfish wishes: Be careful. Remember Wishmaster?
But there really is a missing layer since Borders. Iif they remixed their Sire output with a bari sax, they could re-release it on this new label of theirs, assuming they still own these songs. But I don't know if this treatment would work for everything. Maybe a compilation of the good Sire years songs, with the bari sax layered into the mix?

I would say that the album cover doesn't so much imply a gay relationship, but an impending battle to the death. Of course, what that part of the shot doesn't show is the two of them frotting (is that the right word?) each other. That part is gay.

I'm pretty unsure about this.. They have left a major and are aware of their new fanbase.

Though for a band like them not to realise their new fanbase would be pretty stupid but the fact they turned away from their old fanbase (I remembered they rescheduled a UK tour, as Anthem was taking longer than expecting.. Then they reschedule it again because of the same reasons, however, they seemed to manage a tour with Good Charlotte and New Gound Glory on the UK dates - way to stick your middle fingers up at the fans) - why? So they could have a few years on a major to get them known and then go back independent now they've picked up as many fans as they felt??

and slapstick is awesome.

and the new goldfinger isn't half bad either. at least they put a few ska tracks on it.
