Gwomper (Avail) joins Smoke Or Fire full-time, recording soon

Looks like our recent video of the week featuring Smoke Or Fire was more than just a one-off deal. The band has recruited Avail bassist Gwomper full-time into the band and will be recording with him soon:

So happy to announce that Gwomper from the AVAIL will be playing bass with us. While the Avail camp is bringing some new beautiful babies into the world Gwomp will be touring and recording with us on our new record, and we couldn't be happier.

For all of you who wrote about trying out for the bass player spot, thank you so much, but i'm sure you can understand that we wanted someone close to us to join the family. To have it be a friend, as well as a musician who is part of a band that inspired us to play the music we do, is more than exciting for us. We'll be announcing record details and tour plans soon.

The band released This Sinking Ship last year.

speaking of recording, anyone here have any advice for recording a band live using garageband? like, does anyone have any experience using audio interfaces with multiple mic inputs?...we've got a small budget...vox, bass, guitar and drums is what we're looking to record, simultaneously.

get yourself a four track with four mic inputs...a cassette one. recording on computers is for sissy's (like us).

seriously though, you can probably do well with four mics recorded at once. Put on some headphones and listen to everyone playing for one whole practice, fucking with the mic placement.

or did you mean, record them live...like we do?

if so, take a good stereo pair of the room and the stereo pair from the board to mix in just a touch. Great sound if the house sound guy isn't a douche.

how do you get it to where one instrument doesn't overwhelm another (a.k.a. mic leakage)?

Isolate the amps even if its with like a peice of cardboard or some carpet or something. email me stabstabstab@hotmail.com if you want to talk further about this. Mic bleed will be pretty tough, if not impossible, to get rid of in this environment

i forget what its called but there is a box that separates one track into four mikes with 4 separate volumes. its pretty decent for drums. one kick, one snare, one overhead and one in front.

Less than 2 years, which is fine.

Sure, I'd like a new album from bands I love every year, but I don't start getting mad until it's been 2+ years.
