The Offspring have posted a free, high quality MP3 download of the first single from their upcoming album. The record is titled Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace and is due out June 17, 2008.

Oh and the track is average but better than the turd they released with that video with the animated dog. 'LOL ITS A WOOFWOOF!'. One of the least impressive musical moments of...whatever year that was - 2005?

I do have to give the band credit for being one of the few early proponents of downloading and for letting people actually download promo tracks instead of mandated 90-second clips on streaming boards.

They showed that bands can function in a music-sharing world and still make a living off their music.

Brody the Offspring are established artists who are not only big here but also Across the Pond.... Downloading music hurts new up and coming artists on labels.... These guys get royalties for days and are sponsered by clothing companys and energy drinks... Bands like Radiohead and Pennywise can give away free music because they are established and they know that fans will play 20+ dollars come to see them play...The exact opposite of an up and coming indie band on a label....

In fact:

But there's a pretty wide gap between 5 and 6.

Americana was sooooold the fuck out, and overplayed. And yes, I do in fact highly highly enjoy Splinter, its so fast paced and catchy. Good to yell along to.

i haven't cared about the offspring for years, but i always liked Conspiracy quite well. i think it was a good attempt at making something different.

My order is
Smash
Ixnay
Conspiracy

I have never made i through Splinter or S/t successfully. Splinter because it's terrible, and S/t because it's boring as piss. Really, Smash is all i listen to now. The rest just have between 1 and 5 tracks i enjoy.

Also, this new track is...well...the Offspring. it's pretty damn neutral.

how is it underrated? Almost every Offspring fan I've ever met thinks it's, if no the best, then for sure the third or second best album of theirs. even though it's my second favorite offspring album (maybe tied with Conspiracy), i actually think if anything it's a tad OVERrated by Offspring fans, because it's got some gimmicky tracks easily as bad as the ones on Americana and Conspiracy that no one seems to mention.

it's still good though. but when people say it's better than Smash I get pretty baffled

What's sad about this song if ya listen to the words is when they released Baghdad, it was about a soldier in an impending war in Iraq, now 20 years later it's about a soldier in the second and ongoing Iraq war.

What's sad about this song if ya listen to the words is when they released "Come Out And Play", it was about a newfound concern in gun violence at inner city schools, now 15 years later it's about the ongoing struggle of dealing with the more widespread concern of school shootings.

I love when they dish out the ass kicking singles like "All I Want". The 4 and a half minutes feel like 2 on this song also to me which is really cool.

Well, considering I specifically remember downloading Americana off someone's ftp server before it hit the stores... Yes, it WAS on the radar in 1998.

I'm pretty sure it was Pretty Fly... Because for Original Prankster I believe they just released the video on their website, no mp3... Believe it or not the offspring were way ahead of the curve on this shit.

The Offspring were the first band I ever got into so I like pretty much everything they've done... I like this new song, sounds like they've steered from making the song to "poppy" but the jury will still be out until the album is released.

It's a fucking great song!
The Offspring are just a great band who make music lot's of people love and how they want to make it. Just the wannabe-punk kids around the globe say they suck and make shitty pop songs like weird al, but it doesn't matter what they make to those people. Have you even listened to The Offspring? Pretty Fly For A White Guy is just one of more then 100 songs mate.. And it isn't meant to be just funny, it has a message, like almost every, if not every, Offspring song. You just have to think. but I guess all the alcohol and drugs that make you "such a cool and real punk-kid" have already killed your brains..

the offspring are like one of my favorite bands but when I herd bob rock was gonna be producing I was like oooh shit he is gonna fuck them like metallica
but it cameout it was really good and free too
sooo anyone who doesnt like the song doesnt really have a reason to complain cause its free anyways

Getting back to the point this was a really good song in general and the offspring always put out the best start to finish albums so I'm excited
