Jesse Michaels (Operation Ivy, Common Rider) to do solo tour

Jesse Michaels (Operation Ivy, Common Rider) has announced him plans to do a solo tour in support of a dozen and a half songs that he is currently in the process of writing. Although no dates have been finalized yet, they will be starting in the month of August kicking off in Los Angeles.

Jesse's only recorded solo work is the song "Bell Tower" off of the Experiments In Audio Rocketry compilation that came out in 2003 on 1-2-3-4 Go! Records.

Also, this "solo" tour will be like Tim Armstrong's "solo" album. There will be a backing band. Coincidentally Tim Armstrong is a member of the band, along with some guys named Dave and Matt.

My band American Lies is playing the date in Riverside, which is August 16th. Jeff Ott of Crimpshine is playing it as well. No joke.

Funny you mention that. I was playing Op Ivy today in the background while my math students were doing standardized testing. Some kid asked me who the band was and I said "Operation Ivy." When they asked who that was, the only thing I could think of was how I haven't had to explain who Operation Ivy was to anyone in about a decade. I didn't know what to say.

To answer your question: they fucking better!

im 18 and they are without a doubt one of my favourite bands ever. i discovered them when i was around 14. and it seems like most kids in the punk and ska scenes still know them

i'm a member on Green Day's fanclub, the Idiot Club and there's a substantial number of young fans on there. They know "Knowledge" because of the cover of it, so they know of the band, but i doubt they know much further than that.

I'm 19, & I got into 'em when I was 14.

So at least the 18/19 year old crowd (just another crowd) knows 'em.

Apparently 14 is a good year to get introduce to Op Ivy.

I hope he plays a couple of Common Rider tunes... I love that band as well (maybe even more than Op Ivy).

Fuck Op Ivy--if he plays a few choice Common Rider songs, I'll be stoked. And I saw that band a few times while they were around. I mean, Jesse IS Common Rider, right?

Naw, Mass & Dan from Squirtgun (and Screeching Weasel) are essential to Common Rider. Mass is such an awesome bassist. Listen to Make It Wreck by Squirtgun, if you don't believe me.

Sorry, but no. From Jesse's blog: "Note: since I posted this blog I got some emails from people asking me if I was going to go on tour. Thanks for the interest but I am nowhere near that right now, this blog is just personal reflections on the process of writing a couple songs and doing a couple cafe type gigs acoustically."

I'm disappointed too.
