Weezer pushes up release

Weezer has pushed up their album release from the 24th of June to June 03, 2008. The band explained the push to:

People, due to popular demand and the intense reaction to the Pork And Beans single, the wait time for the new album has just been reduced!

Of course, the band makes no reference to the rumoured leak of eight songs last week.

The Red Album finds the band getting back to their roots of writing quirky pop songs with mind bendingly awful lyrics and the popcraft is wedded to the outlook of an emotional stunted manchild with a well documented fetish. Some people might write weezer off, but anyone who gives this a fair shot

The new songs are no where near as good as the first two albums but are a thousand times better than anything on Make Believe.

Rumor has it that I have those songs burned to a CD somewhere, and that I've listened to it.

But that's all just heresay.

In all seriousness, they're better than anything on Make Believe, but a couple of them are just whatever and one of them sucks pretty bad.

I'm actually surprised to read the above posts... everyone I know has been tearing this album apart, calling it absolutely terrible. I think it's okay but some of the lyrics and such are just plain embarrassing.

The lyrics are definitely the worst part of the the album. How many School / Cool / Fool rhymes does Rivers need?

The lyrics have always been pretty embarrassing. Especially 'Butterfly' and that's on the record that everybody seems to jerkoff to. I like them, they've got some crap but they are still fun.

Plus Nerf Herder can't keep cranking out records.

Its not completely terrible, but only has a few good moments. In my opinion, it's better than Maladroit and Make Believe, and maybe equal to The Green Album. The Green Album had consistency though, and this one doesn't. Some songs are hits and others are misses and they miss by a longshot. There are maybe 3 or 4 songs that would have made great follow-ups to Pinkerton. I read that Weezer wrote "Pork and Beans" lyrics to spite their Geffen's push for more radio-friendly tracks, so when I heard "Everybody Get Dangerous," I figured the band had to cave to some of the labels desires.

i do dig how they play with song structures and different musical elements, it at least shows that they're trying some new ideas after the derivative crap on "Make Believe." But, the lyrics are embarrassingly bad and some of the ideas while good in theory, fail in execution. rivers is trying to be brian wilson, but he falls pretty short of the mark.

I'll tear it apart. Make Believe isn't as bad as people say. I actually listen to it more often than Maladroit. This one, however, is one of the worst things I've ever heard.
