My Chemical Romance fans to march against Daily Mail newspaper

Fans of My Chemical Romance have unveiled plans to march across London in protest against the depiction of the band in the media. The march, to be held on May 31, will begin at Hyde Park's West Pond and end outside the offices of The Daily Mail

The protest stems from the newspaper's callous attempt to shift blame to the band in the tragic suicide of 13-year old Hannah Bond. The newspaper referred to the popular emo/punk act as a "suicide cult" band, placing them in stead with previous offenders, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Nirvana and others who were blamed for suicides instead of mental health issues that are almost always at the center of suicides.

As Punknews.org mentioned earlier, people facing depression or suicidal thoughts should consider calling 1-800-SUICIDE where they can speak to a counselor.

As much as I despise the music that bands like MCR, and most other bands of today's society create, I really don't think that they should be blamed for the complete downfall of our younger generation/society.Thus rather, they shouldn't be blamed every time a depressed teenager who overdoes their makeup and worships the band, takes their own life because they feel there is no other way out. The only thing MCR should be blamed for is creating shitty music, not the death of every teenager.

you'll never hear a gangsta rap song (or any rap song for that matter) crying about a relationship, lyrics like "cut my wrists and black my eyes," or anything self-deprecating. if anything its the opposite - "fuck bitches" and self-empowerment of the individual. sure, that message has obvious flaws and contradictions but it is infinitely better than some of this other shit about worthlessness and loneliness. and most white kids who listen to it see it as nothing more than entertainment and dont take it seriously like they would an "emo" band

as far as christian music goes, yea its a form of brainwashing, but at least it makes the person feel better about themselves, even if its about something thats not true. thats goes for all religious music

The only really bad part about gangsta-rap is that people emulate it. People look up to some of the shit that is said. It's fucked up because most of the singers don't believe the shit coming out of their mouths, it's an act.

that might happen on a limited basis, but its been largely exaggerated. gangsta rap didnt come around until about 1985 and crime in the ghetto was an even bigger problem before 1985 than it is now. and obviously white neighborhoods dont suffer from it and they're a majority of the audience

In no way am I blaming rap for crime or violence. Crime is a result of prosperity or lack thereof. Look back at the gangster shit in Chicago back in the 1920's, those were some fucked up times... and it was all white on white crime.

First of all, I much rather listen to NWA or NAS than My Chemical Romance.

Second of all, I kind of do see his point. This pseudo-emo(I really hate that this shit is lumped in together with amazing bands like Rites of Spring, Embrace, Mineral,etc) bullshit is pretty bad. A bunch of rich dudes in make up singing about suicide(I'm sure growing up in North Jersey in a mansion must have been really rough for these guys). It is kind of a weird message. I don't think it should be censored, I just wish that these kids had half a brain and could think for themselves once in a while.

Finally, the whole slut generation thing I think is the worst influence on kids these days. Seeing all these famous skanks strut their stuff and basically promoting getting railed. It's awful. Someone should tell these girls that having self respect is more attractive than wearing
