Trailer for upcoming Hunter S.Thompson documentary

A trailer has been released for the upcoming documentary about Hunter S.Thompson, the father of "Gonzo Journalism," and author of notable works like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The film is led by director Alex Gibney and producer Graydon Carter and features narration by Johnny Depp. Thompson passed away in 2005.

The film addresses the major touchstones in Thompson's life-his intense and ill fated relationship with the Hell's Angels, his near-successful bid for the office of sheriff in Aspen in 1970, the notorious story behind the landmark Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, his deep involvement in Senator George McGovern's 1972 presidential campaign, and much more.

I think about doing that way too much. There are some beautiful scenic places in America that need to be explored while on drugs. Going to the grand canyon while under the influence is unbeatable. Probably one of the top 5 experiences throughout my short life.

Like so many younger "rebellious" students, I fell in love with HST's style kicking through college. No one other than Ralph Steadman could have illustrated those books. As soon as this film comes out, I will pour a glass of Chivas and once again be filled with the urge to Stomp Terra. Res Ipsa Loquitor. Selah.

Yeah, there are rumors that that was one of the main reasons for his suicide, but who knows the real truth about Bohemian Grove? Its either extremely evil if you believe Alex Jones or it's extremely hokey if you believe Harry Shearer.

and this whole nebraska, washington dc sex slave business, I mean I'm sure bad stuff like that goes on, and I think I'm as skeptical of government as a person posting on punknews should be. But I mean who has the energy to carry on a wide scale satanic cult of evil on an everday basis? Seems like a lot of work. Like these people who keep people locked in dungeons and torture them for years on end...haha, I know its wrong for other reasons, but really, after a week how are you not like...'meh, I'm over this'?

Yes, you are refering to the Franklin scandal. You should check out John DeCamps book and also the documentary that was pulled the night before it was supposed to be aired.

The only thing that really gave doubt to the case is that the kids involved grew up to be fuckups whose testimony couldn't be trusted.

On another note, ask yourself how a net reporter such as Jeff Gannon (who had ties to gay internet sites) was able to gain total access to the White House.

well I was referring specifically to the hassle involved in keeping somebody chained up in your basement indefinitely. I mean you gotta always worry they will escape, give them food, worry they are going to hit you over the head with a 2x4 and try to choke you out Jabba the Hut style the next time you open the door. Who needs it? Hell I like to have sex with women but I can have sex with a woman once and 3/4ths of the time I don't really have the desire for that particular chick much anymore.

Wow, this made my fucking day. YOu guys and gals should all go and read his shit, this was a guy who called like he saw, and had a real musical flow to his writing(he said writing was how he did music). I've so many fun wasted nights with my buddies watching the fear and loathing film, so it'll be interesting to hear some more Johnny Depp reading his work(he's supposed to do rum diary too). Yeah, go check out his stuff guys, fuckin awesome.

This is a great warts and all documentary. I saw it in April at a film festival and was very impressed. I love HST and his writing, it is just manic enough to keep my attention. He was a very interesting guy. BTW. It might help if you posted the name of the film SOMEWHERE in the article. It is called "Gonzo", in case anyone is interested.
