Singer stabbed to death after Bloomington, Indiana house show

Christopher Johnson of Useless Wooden Toys was stabbed to death Saturday morning after his band played a house show in Bloomington, Indiana on Friday night. Johnson was taken to Bloomington Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Christopher Johnson was 32 years old.

The altercation began when the two got into a fist fight after Brian P. White grabbed a woman's buttocks at a house party at the Arlington Road residence. A short time later, White came out of the house and stabbed Johnson in the chest, according to the news release.

Johnson was then transported to Bloomington Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy was scheduled for 3 p.m. at Hendricks Region Hospital in Danville, Ind. However, the preliminary cause of death is a stab wound to the chest, said Monroe County Coroner David Toumey.

Autopsy from a stabbing? If the guy has a knife-shaped hole in his chest is there really a need to cut him open to figure out how he died? Where is the logic there?

everybody gets an autopsy. it's the law. sometimes it may seem unnecessary, but that's part of the process.

On the local news here I frequently see stories where "the man was shot 11 times and was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death". Are they trying to figure out if it was the 10th or the 11th bullet that actually killed him?

In California (at least) it's a law that if you haven't received medical treatment for the COD in the last 40 days (I believe) an autopsy is required. For lots of cases it makes them mandatory as you can rarely tell the COD without an autopsy and how often do you get medical treatment for an accident that kills you instantly?

Obviously the dude was screwed up if he went as far as to stab someone but the sanctuary and the prayer parts of the story made me think he was more disturbed than the average bear.

I just don't understand how someone's reaction to minor disrespect like someone grabbing your GF's butt is to stab the guy in the chest. You'd think someone would get much more satisfaction by short sheeting the guy or unscrewing the salt salt shaker before giving it to him. At least then you could laugh your ass off and not have to worry about getting thrown in jail for life or the gas chamber. I don't get it at all. How could you feel vindicated after a reaction like that???

As I mentioned a few posts up, I submitted this story. The first paragraph posted on Punknews is mine that I wrote myself. The rest is pasted from the reference article, which I guess Aubin thought should be included.

Direct copying is a fairly common practice in wire-reporting. Usually there is some sort of attribution involved, though. It'll usually read something like: "Portions of this article taken from wire reports".

I gotta say, I am shocked but not at all surprised that this happened in Bloomington, IN. Bloomington is a liberal as hell town in the middle of a red state. You pass the city limits and you're in KKK territory... literally. It's also a city surrounded by tiny towns and full of rich college kids... needless to say, fights happen. This one just went too far. White was from out of town in Warsaw, Johnson was from MPLS and probably friends with a bike punk in town or something. It's fucked up but not surprising.

Bloomington is about the most hodge-podged mess of people I've ever lived around in my life. However, its generally not homicidal. It isn't Detroit. Me, and my loud ass drunken mouth, have been to more than my fair share of house parties and shows in bloomington over the span of four years and never once did I fear for my life. No matter where I was in town (or how drunk or sober) I always felt pretty safe. But you're kind of right it isn't really the suburbs or anything. It's a College town by nature there will be shit loads of ruckus.

I've spent some time in Indiana before, and after growing up in a small town in Texas and moving to California, and visiting Indiana, I'm not really surprised. Shit like this use to happen in the town where I was from. You would see on the new or in the paper of people being found dead in hotel rooms by the beach, bodies in ditches(although I think those could have been drug related..this was about 150 miles north of the border), people shot on their front porches and shit..in parking lots at grocery stores in broad daylight....small town minds don't think correctly. That's why I left.
