The Marked Men taking a break for at least two years; last shows this weekend

The Marked Men have announced that this weekend's pair of shows in Texas will be their last for at least two years. According to a MySpace blog:

Jeff is moving to Japan next week and everybody else has a lot going on in their lives, we are all sad but we will have another record coming out and a few 7"s coming out over the next decade or so. We are not going to be playing for a long time and it is not us breaking up, but if we do play it will be rare and hopefully we get a trip to Japan out of it. I like to think we have done a whole lot of cool stuff and we have met some of the best people I have ever met in my life, and I have even met some of my "idols" through this band. We took control of our band and have done things our way and I am so proud of that. I hope people and other bands take note that you CAN do things your way! It also pays off to be good people, at least that is what I think, if that matters....

The shows are tomorrow, July 18th in Austin at Emo's and the 19th at Rubber Gloves in Denton. The band released Fix My Brain in 2006 and, as the blog says, are planning on releasing another LP and a few more 7"'s.

Ahhhh, FINALLY somebody else that saw it. It's pretty fucking dead on... except for that shit ass song for the trailer. Watching Nite-Owl scream at the end... I can't wait to see how they do the end.

Billy Corgan is wack, but Dr. Manhatten looked GREAT. So did Rorshach, my favorite of the bunch - Batman if he had no money. If they soften the ending because of how "wahh wahh people are still sensitive about you-know-what, the American moviegoer is a giant pussy" I am going to set fire to the Warner Brothers lot.

All the movie sites are saying that the ending stays. Which means this will be the biggest downer of a movie ending (for the better) since 'Seven' came out.

Rorshach is my fave too, natually. His line at the end of the trailer was soooo good. All the characters look great.

Can't wait to see this on a screen in front of me.

A bunch of 'extras' were talking shit about the end saying that the set was still standing so there was 'no way' the ending stays...but in todays time with computer graphics, wouldn't it make sense to not destroy a free standing set but to destroy it hardcore digitally?

If you never read it, that wouldn't mean anything to anybody.

Even sitting in the theatre saying 'I hear there is an intergalactic octopus, baldsteve on the internetz machine said so'. When it happens/ IF it happens you are just as blindsided by it in SCOPE. Just seeing it means fucking nothing... you know this nerdy.

When you've got an internet site for a fairly niche audience (like this), most people posting are fairly sane or at least have enough in common to have fairly civil debates.

When you blow it up to something as general, like "movies," that's when you have the loons crawl out from under their rock to write 3,000 word diatribes about how Wall-E is nothing but evil libhrul propaganda.

I know, I've had idiots here at wacko-central saying they thought Wall-E was one of the worst things they ever saw. So, I simply asked, 'What did you think of 'I Am Legend'. He thought that was the greatest thing ever.

I won the arguement without ever raising my voice or insulting the guy... he did just fine by himself.

Man, even if you disagreed with the central premise, how you could you view it as anything but a georgeous work of - let's say it - art. Blows my mind.

Speaking nerd stuff, did you want me to bring my Y: The Last Man stuff this weekend? I'll be out of time for a while afterwards and won't be needing them any time soon. Trust me, you won't be able to put it down if you liked Vol. 1.

seriously... i just moved to texas like the week of their last shows. and i was so fucking stoked. and then i realize OH i missed chaos in tejas annnnnd the marked men's last shows. and i am PRETTY damn sure that i was in denton on the 19th.

garbage. absolutely not crucial.

can anyone recommend any good local texas punk or hardcore bands?
i'm in dallas now
