Slayer talks new album, possible dissolution

Tom Araya, frontman for the long running, thrash metal band Slayer, has been talking about how long the band can continue after their next album, their last with legendary producer Rick Rubin, saying:

Yeah. Let's put it this way, this is the final record of our commitment with Rick Rubin. When we first signed a deal with him back in 1986, we never sat down and said, 'How long do you guys want to keep this together?'

The band's tenth album of original material will follow 2006's Christ Illusion. An official name and release date for the album have not been officially confirmed, but Slayer is aiming it for a late 2008/early 2009 release.

Yeah, those who call Slayer racist are totally ignorant to Slayer. Half the cast isn't even white. Sure, Slayer has some retarded fanbase, but don't all bands?

I don't know if I agree with the Kurt Ballou part, unless its Kurt 2002 and before. Since then, he's gotten pretty sludgey. HopeCon's Endnote is around one of the last things I've been impressed by soundwise that came from there. Rick Rubin knows Slayer well and has done their best albums. Anything would be better than Matt Hyde though.

I went to this one festival and there was a bunch of dudes with long hair, camo clothing with a slayer patch on the back, cut off sleeves, and boots. It was kinda funny.

When I saw Lifetime, it was really refreshing just to see a bunch of normal, non-punk looking people all enjoying the music. It was the only punk show I went to where the Casualtie back patches were the minority.

SLAYER fucking rules and is a major pinnacle in metal, hardcore, and even punk rock music to follow for 20 years thus far.

Calling it quits would be terrible. I hope the new album rocks. Christ Illusion was the best thing they've done since Seasons in The Abyss.

Although I never "got" Slayer, I've always respected them. Their impact on metal and related types of music cannot be understated. Just not my cup of tea.....

I'm concerned because while I don't play metal, I do enjoy it and don't wanna stop listening to it just because I get old.

i guess when your heart isn't into it anymore and it starts to feel like a chore, it's time to call it quits. sounds a little lazy if you ask me, as i know plenty of people that would love to be in a band full time and be as revered as slayer. guess all the blast beats and chug-chugs have rattled his brain a little too much.
