The Sword have been tapped to support Metallica on their upcoming tour. The Sword most recently released Gods of the Earth to a 4.5/5 score review on this site.
I hope not. I love the thrash. But like I replied elsewhere, not all the bands who are doing it are doing it great. Municipal Waste IS doing it great. I'd like to see more quality bands coming through, and less thrash-just-to-thrash. But every genre in existence usually has 1 quality band for every 100 doing the same thing.
I dont think so,I think its part of a turning tide in metal overall. The punk friendly, hipster irony thing might ba at a paek but,I think alot of people who like metal are sick and tired of grind/death black cookie cutter COOKIE MONSTER mach affectation violence right leaning shit core. They want the fun back and I say HUZZAH!
The bigger, better bands as lord shredder pointed out, are still big, some getting bigger. Lots of the other bands aren't drawing as much as they were a year ago.
Not all the bands in that list are great, but I like it.
Melody, fast, shredding, metal that isn't just trying to be as fast and brutal as possible (ie the millions of tech-death bands out now ripping off Necrophagist).
Even punk (Strung Out, old Lagwagon) have thrash influence.
I think its opposite of fashionable. People are bringing back a good style.
Now, I'd like to see Skate Punk make a good comeback to go with it.
None of those bands would draw that well here, so I have no idea how fashionable thrash is now. I do know I saw the waste with about 20 other dudes about 4 years ago, and when they opened for Suicidal not too many people were previously into them.
Well, I've yet to hear any of those bands put out anything that could touch Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica, Testament, Anthrax etc. It is entertaining though, and far away my favorite style of metal. I guess it's awesomely cheesy.
Metallica gas a braid fan base. You ll see old thrashers jocks bro's and more than a few just burnouts and music heads. Its Metallica dude fer fucks sake.I mean at least live you might hear some fuckin FOUR HORSEMEN or Trapped Under ICe. A lot of gamers, ironists, and fantasy dorks like the Sword as well. They got the D&D meets Queen Meets Dio thing goin. But Down??? yeah total rural chachi fest.
kind of an ideal and rad schedule for them actually - one day on, one day off - end up back home for a few weeks off for Christmas - back on the road...
They arent smart enough to build a time machine,FORGE MIGHTY STEEL perhaps,They can Always borrow Municipal Waste' time machine but it only goes back to 1987.
If you dig the Thrash, check out Rusted Dawn, on Myspace. They rock! Recording quality is bad on some but they can wail. There from Ontario somewhere I think.
They need to bring back Cliff Burton, that dude could wail
