Kerrang! award winners include Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine

Kerrang held its annual Kerrang awards recently. Amongst the recipients were Metallica (Inspiration Award), Dillinger Escape Plan (Spirit of Independence), Coheed and Cambria (best Video), Rage Against The Machine (Hall of Fame) and Bullet for my Valentine (Best British Band). Avenged Sevenfold pulled in the "Best Album Award" for their recent self-titled album. M. Shadows addressed his fans saying:

Wanted you guys to hear it directly from the band that our album Avenged Sevenfold just won Album of the Year at the 2008 Kerrang! Awards! Receiving such an honor in the United Kingdom means so much to us because England has become like a second home. This summer has been the best of our career. We've seen so many of you in so many countries and you've all touched us. We're so proud of how much love our fans in the US have always shown us. And now it means the world to us to know how many of you around the globe have been touched by our music. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Another thing that actually OFFENDS me, which is hard to to these days, are the people who are pissed that musicians make money. The strange, slow, old people on punknews.org and the few annoying stragglers on this website.

Milloy, the King Blues, Me you and the Atom bomb, Former Cell Mates and the Dauntless Elite are all pretty good UK bands

I have a love-hate relationship with kerrang. They clearly know their shit at times when it comes to punk, indie, hardcore and post rock stuff, but all of it has to come second to shit like bullet and slipknot, because if they weren't on the front page, they wouldn't sell a thing.

As a North American, i don't really get a chance to read it that often, but every time i'm in the UK i pick it up. It's a lot better then most mainstream rock rags, but they go a bit overboard with the Slipknot coverage.

rock sound's probably the best music mag in the uk. yeah, they bigger bands are what's always on the front page, but they've got great coverage of all genres, they don't tend to overhype things, and they're pretty fair with the reviews. a shitload of my favourite bands (well known and otherwise) were discovered on rocksound freebie samplers.

it's about the only magazine i can go and get when there's a band i hate on the front and still enjoy the rest of it.

Yeah, I sometimes buy Rocksound too, but I dunno, Big Cheese is what i buy almost every month, if I'm looking to get a music mag. I've kinda stopped buying magazines though, cos i work in a newsagent and can just read them whenever I want.

Rocksound is where it is at. Free music, good features, covers most rock-related bases.

Big Cheese is good but it's a bit all over the place in the way it's layed out.

So i'm listening to the new Anberlin, and all the songs are 3:00 minute, repetitive junk.

But the last song,"Misearbile Visu (Ex Malo Bonum)", is an an expansive 6:00 + number.

I don't understand why a band who obviously has the ability to write more expansive songs continues to write pop drivel.

But didn't Avenged Sevenfold get mostly trashed in reviews?
I know I didn't like it at all, they've gone so far downhill since Waking the Fallen.
Props to Rage for getting into the "Hall of Fame" though.

That's how Kerrang operates dude. They totally 'shit-talk' what they think is not so cool, but once it starts selling (and they start paying for adverts inside) they get back on their knees and suck away. It was funny a few years how they were all about nu-metal bands (Limp Bizkit, Staind, etc...) and they really pushed that shit to the maxx and now they try to make fun of it, or claim that those bands are 'rock' bands or whatever. Same with all the fucking emo, screamo bands...
