Fans riot at Reading Festival when punk band FF'ers mistaken for Foo Fighters

NME is reporting that rumors of a secret Foo Fighters gig on August 24th at the Reading Festival caused a near riot among fans. A British punk band unfortunately named The FF'ers were to perform on the BBC Introducing Stage at 5 pm, but the estimated 3,000 fans who had gathered were expecting a secret Foos set. When the Grohl-less band took the stage they were pelted with mud, bottles and shoes and had to abandon their set. A similar treatment was given to the following act until organizers emphatically stated that there was no Foo Fighters appearance planned, secret or otherwise.

Dave Grohl was around, mind you, performing with Queens Of The Stone Age and Tenacious D at the simultaneous Leeds Festival.

I've been noticing lately, what's with the animated characters interacting with real people on all the, non-cereal related, commercials lately? And two of them use the same "animated" or "not animated" pun. It reminded me of Roger Rabbit. And the one with Mr. Opportunity for Honda, it has been driving me crazy the past month, but I think I've finally figured out that he was one of the voices for the original ninja turtles cartoon back when. I want to say Raph but when I close my eyes to think about it, the live action movie voices get mixed up with the cartoon voices so I'm not positive.

Blame NME for overcooking the situation, bit of mud a few bottles, nowhere near as bad as the 50 cent thing.

The Foo Fighters comment doesn't work, Reading and Leeds are parallel festivals, the FF'ers played on the same day as Tenacious D, so Grohl was there making it was completely plausible.

There are actually people on their myspace page saying, "give up the hoax, we know you are the Foo Fighers." Then after the show, all the comments just say, "oh, well that's an unfortunate name." Serious question; can I hate humanity any more than I already do? This didn't help in the slightest. Fucking troglodytes.

This article couldn't be more wrong. Dave Grohl did NOT perform with queens of the stone age or tenacious d (he was only rumoured to) and i was standing outside that tent when the ff's went on and it was nothing like that.

What is it with Reading (or more specifically, Leeds)... V attracts the city twats but there's always dickholes who set fire to stuff on the last day EVERY year at Reading. It may have had a shit lineup this year but at least Download doesn't have that kind of behaviour ruining it.

Ok, Just to clear up a few things.

Riot is totally overcooking the whole thing. A shit load of people turned up to a tiny stage and there was a bit of disgruntlement, a few bottles generally booing and back turning, hardly a full scale riot. It was in no way comparable to the Panic at the disco 'piss bottle in face incident' or other bottlings (50 cent/Daphne and Celeste...now there is a blast from the past).

The reason for the confusion arose from the fact nobody knew who the ff'ers where, word on the grape vine is their myspace used to be littered with Foo's lyrics and this rumour had been flying round for ages.

In fairness they were useless, so they kind of got what they deserved as a backlash to rumour mongering.....

Ah, so my subjective view of this band should be totally based on how my band is doing. That's an insightful way of measuring the quality of a band....or maybe just a little dumb.

So, you establish and proliferate a rumour that then backfires. I'd go for that being your own fault.
