In Memoriam: Steve Foley of The Replacements (1959-2008)

Steve Foley, who played drums for The Replacements late in their career, died this past weekend in Minneapolis. He was 49. Reports are citing an accidental overdose of prescription medication as the cause.

In 1990 Foley, who had played in Minneapolis bands such as Curtiss A, Wheelo and Snaps, was brought in to replace original Mats drummer Chris Mars. He toured with the band until their final show on July 4, 1991 in Chicago's Grant Park. He and his brother later joined Tommy Stinson's band Bash & Pop. In recent years Steve worked as a car salesman in Minneapolis.

Our deepest condolences go out to Steve's family and friends.

I've never really listened to the replacements but I liked some of the songs off that tribute comp that was streamed on pn ages ago. where would be a good place to start?

I realize the older stuff is more "important" and Tim and Let It Be are two of my favorite albums, but I'll go ahead and open myself up to criticism by saying All Shook Down is my fave by The Replacements.

Oh, man, that's terrible. I really only discovered how good The Replacements were about two years ago, and I always wished I could have known about them and been old enough to have enjoyed their heyday.

goes to show you how motherfucking dangerous prescription meds are but that's ok, with a nice little doctors signature you are good to go.......yet marijuana has been studied for years (just by me) and nothing harmful comes from it.....yet, it's illegal

Agreed. The only negative side effect of pot is that i usually forget what i'm talking about mid sentence...but that's only when i'm high.

It's funny because people can take too many pills and die, but i can smoke bowl after bowl and be fine. Yet pot is still a no-no to the gov.

a few years ago i read in Time that you'd need to smoke 9000 joints in one sitting to overdose on weed. which is impossible because after two joints to your head you're too lazy to even try and go the distance.

i read that in order to od on pot you would have to smoke half your weight...which is imposssible who could consume say 80lbs of weed in a day??

it is pretty MEST up. i'm totally for legalizing it, but I think its looked down on "by government) because of it intended recreational use. Obviously marijuana now has more medicinal uses than say, alcohol, but I'm just trying to think of the only argument I can.

Well many people think the safety net of the word "prescription" means they can't alter their doses at their own discretion. The truth is most doctors don't know what the fuck they're doing & they match your symptoms up with the latest Pfizer or GlaxoSmithKline drug-of-the-week & then prescribe it for you. Always research fucking drugs before you take them. Doctors arehumans too.

RIP Mr. Foley, The Mats are the greatest rock band in history.

He was younger than my parents, that sucks, thats such a young age to die.

There isnt a day that goes by that I don't listen to the replacements. One of the best bands ever.

I bought the biography awhile back, now I have to force myself to find time to read it.
