Austin Lucas signs to Suburban Home

Portland, OR's Austin Lucas has signed with Suburban Home Records. After cutting his teeth in a variety of crust, grind, and punk groups throughout the Midwest and Czech Republic, Lucas released Putting the Hammer Down earlier this year on Magic Bullet.

Lucas is currently writing and recording his new album this fall, and it should see a release date of March 2009. He will also be joining a few dates of the much talked about Revival Tour later on this year.

I totally had no idea he returned to the US. I love all of his work and I really hope people will check him out more with the release of Bristle Ridge (which isn't even his best work, in my opinion). Great, great musician.

I've liked what I've heard of Bristle Ridge but I am always surprised that people outside of the Midwest and Appalachia enjoy that type of music. By enjoy, I mean appreciate it unironically.

Trust me, spend enough time in the metropolitan South with all the faux Rednecks (rich kids who fetishize belt buckles and "muddin'") with their polished countrypolitan, and you start to appreciate the rawer stuff.

Such a great album. I've been listening to it every morning as I drive to school. Their rendition of "Darlin' Corey" is the best I've heard yet.

Ok, I may have mentioned this before, but how lame is it that we can only give star rating to albums that are reviewed? I wanna give 5 stars to Drag The River's newest and The Playing Favorites, but I can't because they havent been reviewed. Thus making them ineligible for the Punknews albums of the year list.
I know I could review them myself, but that's not the point. I think we should be able to vote on any record that's released (as long as the band has a PN profile).

Thoughts?

Yeah, that band blows me away every time I listen to them... I think their newest might be my record of the year.
In a perfect world, crap like Brooks and Dunn and Garth Brooks would be opening for these guys.

I'm at work too, and I'm not really interested in those records. Perhaps if you wrote a sparkling review of one over the weekend I'd read it and be more likely to check it out.
