What "resources" do you need to learn english? Your not starting your own business, just learning how to speak the NATIVE language of a country you CHOSE to move to.

The people that you talk about earning less than minimum wage are illegals anyways. No employer can legally pay their employee lower than minimum wage and the only way that happens is if the employee is illegal and can't report the employer.

If you move to a country for any length of time and don't try to learn that country's language while at the same time expecting everyone to accomodate you, you can go fuck yourself.

English is one of the hardest languages to learn. You may not NEED any resources, but English is such a tricky fucker that without classes you are pretty much fucked. And, last time I checked, most classes cost money. You can't just pick the shit up within a few weeks.

Technically speaking, the United States does not have an official native language. So it's unreasonable to expect everyone who comes to this country to learn English. But don't worry! When you walk down the street and come across some brown people speaking their scary moon talk, chances are they're not talking about you, anyway.

Thats cool, people who don't want to learn english don't have to, that means they will never compete for the same jobs as me and will be forced to work lower wage jobs until they learn English as *drumroll please* the majority of people in this country speak english while doing business.

I'm pretty sure most immigrants want to learn english,I used to volunteer for a charity that provides free english classes twice a week and I've never seen more dedicated students. There was constantly a waiting list to get in and the main gripe I heard was how hard it was to even find opportunities to speak english in public, being that our culture is pretty much segregated and a lot of their employment is dealing with other spanish speakers...

Millions of kids take years and years of foreign language classes in high school/college and what would you say, 10% are anything resembling conversational 2 years later? Unless you make a point of immersing yourself it is pretty damn hard. Of course a stranger in a strange land wants to be among his own, the little mexicans are always holding up the lines at 7-11 after their soccer games on Sunday evenings around here. Now I'm not saying it wouldn't behoove the speaker, as well as help in the overall lubrication of society, to learn the language of the country they're in, but I think it's pretty hard to go around demanding it with bumperstickers and whatnot and not come off like the "ugly american." If you see a bedraggled, poor mom with 8 dirty kids in tow she obviously can't afford, are you really going to go up to her in Burger King and yell "it's called birth control mor

You do need resources to learn English, time being the main one. Your comment that "they can't be bothered" is a little too close to calling immigrants "lazy", "a lazy immigrant" being a complete oxymoron. You've got to be motivated and determined to get here in the first place. This applies even more strongly for illegal immigrants who risk life and limb to get to the US.
