My Chemical Romance bassist to pen DC Comics story

My Chemical Romance's Mikey Way has been tapped by DC Comics to write an eight-page story for the upcoming Halloween issue of one of their titles. While rumours abound that the story will appear in one of the Batman series, this has yet to be confirmed.

Way isn't the first MCR member to dabble in graphic storytelling, with his bandmate and older brother Gerard responsible for the Dark Horse-published Umbrella Academy series.

Both great books. If you like Long Halloween, check out the sequel "Dark Victory." It's right on par with LH. I'd also recommend "Gotham Central," which is collected in a series of 5 trades. Batman only makes minor appearances, but I'd still rank it as my favorite Bat-series ever. It's all about the cops who work in Gotham, kind of a "Wire meets Batman" thing, written by Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka.

And speaking of Brubaker, his one-shots "The Man Who Laughs" and "Gotham Noir" are also stellar. The former is a Joker story taking place right after Alan Moore's classic "The Killing Joke," featuring the first confrontation between Joker and Batman. The later is an out-of-continuity crime tale starring James Gordon with art by Sean Phillips, who worked with Brubaker on "Sleeper" and "Criminal."

Everything Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale touch turns to gold. Get all their Batman shit, and don't forget to pick up Catwoman: When in Rome and Daredevil Yellow.

Seriously, Ultimates 3 and Red Hulk are two huge insults to the intelligence of readers and previous writers alike.

Hush yeah, LH no. I don't find it that disturbing; Batman became a completely different guy after O'Neil and then MIller, so it makes sense that people who grew up with that version would have favorite stories in that era.

And really, how many people on just this site have all (or most) of their favorite music being from the last 20 years? Or movies, for that matter?

go read batman: strange apparitions. it collects the englehart/rogers run for the 70s and it is fucking killer. also anything that collects any of the denny o'neil/neal adams run from the 60s/70s, i think there's a trade with all their original ra's al ghul stories. and avoid hush, unless you like stories written for 14 year old fan boys that make absolutely no sense when examined closely.

He's right about the Neal Adams 70's stuff. Thats when he started becoming The Dark Knight we all know and love(AGAIN!) That stuff,and Swamp Thing and of course The Punisher, were instrumental in pushing the boundries of the Comics Code Authority. Dont leave out The Long Halloween. You also have to put the O.G. Bob Kane Detective Comics from the 30's to early 40' PRE- ROBIN! There are a couple of Hardbound anthologies of that stuff out there. Check Amazon. Im a 90's kid so Im a sucker for Nightfall...I know some people think its whack though.

Really? I never really cared for Bob Kane's stuff. The artwork is ok, but the writing is TERRIBLE. Even by Golden Age standards.

I cant speak for his talents in this regard personally, but just the thought that his involvement with that lame band opened this door when I know a bunch of artists,let alone would be story writers,who would lose a ball for this opportunity....It just makes me sad.

I don't know about Mikey, but Gerard actually worked for DC's Vertigo imprint as an intern BEFORE starting My Chem. If the band didn't blow up like they did, he very well could've ended up doing comics first.

Being in a band, even a shitty one, shouldn't be a reason to exclude someone from doing something else if they have talent.
