i always liked fugazi a bit more. i guess its a testament to the way hardcore really was/is sometimes/should be but a lot of minor threat stuff isn't that listenable.

Oddly enough, I find Minor Threat to be one of the more listenable acts of the genre, especially when compared with the stuff that's been labeled as hardcore over the last decade or so.

I think that record's stood the test of time better than most of their contemporaries. I still find it very enjoyable.

so hunter s. thompson supposedly said "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me." that's kind of hard to argue with. besides, there are alot of drugs out there, i'd have to try all of them before I wrote them all off completely. i mean, i've never tried acid. alot of people that have done it say it's great, but that knowing me and how unstable i am to begin with I should not do it. now, as much as that hurts, i take that pretty seriously because i figure they should know better because they've experienced it. that's got to count for something.

I just tried acid for the first time a couple months ago. Tried it for the second time last weekend. It is pretty amazing. But it is also really important to make sure you are in a good/stable state of mind at the time, and in a positive/safe environment. I feel like everyone should be able to try that and experience it at least once though.

minor threat was awesome and drugs are awesome too. telegraph sucked except for sir derrick grant.

This year he's also been in "Elegy," "Transsiberian," and "The Wackness," and he's also in Scorsese's next. He makes no bones about the fact that he takes a lot of roles for the sole purpose of funding his purchase of a fuckin' castle (seriously), but as evidenced by my list above he still works on some interesting projects.

And Arrested Development username. Bravo.

While he works a lot and takes parts in mediocre or flawed movies, he generally does some good things in them.

That said, he's excellent in Elegy and does some fun and interesting things in The Wackness.

he was in lucky number slever too, which was a lot better than i would have ever expected it to be

Kingsley's pretty good in it, but I felt like it was only so so.

Weak writing, poorly edited, and the main character just wasn't likable. The kid just came off as really obnoxious and dumb.

That said, it's certainly more interesting and engaging than a good number of movies this summer.

i really liked kingsleys performance; it was him that made the film good for me. i loved his character and i could totally empathise with his situation. totally agree about the main character - he was just a bit of an asshole, but then, i think he was only supposed to be about 17 years old, so in that context his attitude is a bit more understandable. the writers should have focussed more upon the relationship between kingsley and the main character guy - because that was were the film was at its strongest. the scene where they are on the beach near the end is a particular highlight i think. did you see 'man on wire'? now that is worth seeing!

Without question, Kingsley's performance is the most notable feature of the movie, though it does have some nice style elements, character exchanges, etc. And it's not that I thought the main character was unbelievable, but that he was pretty stupid and unlikable... and while you don't have to like the main character of a movie, you should at least find him compelling. Though his ability to sell weed was pretty impressive.

But yeah... it should have focused more on the relationship with Kingsley (or just Kingsley). I agree with you about the scene on the beach near the end. But the guy who wrote and directed it was like 29 and this is his first movie, so I guess it's to be expected that he's doing more telling than showing in terms of his characters. But yeah, there's certainly a lot to like, though it isn't much more than a kind of quirky formula coming of age movie. If he hadn't gotten Kingsley (or maybe a handful of other top notch actors), it might have been half as good, if that.

If your Dad was Ian Mackaye, he wouldnt have to try to be cool. He would have carved a huge chunk out(of what is percieved by many to be "cool") with his sheer will already and have had the sense to not re-unite the band of his adolescence.
