Reagan Youth working on new album

The surviving members of Reagan Youth have announced intent to record some new material. Filling in for their late frontman Dave Insurgent is Pat McGowan from the band Distraction.

McGowan spoke to Riot Fest about the idea.

The more we tell people we're doing it the more we actually have to. [It is] going to sound like the last Reagan Youth album where it's all different styles. There was never one consistent sound. Some songs are slow, some songs are fast, some songs are in the middle, some songs are just grooves.

The original band was together for nearly a decade, but released only one album, Youth Anthems for the New Order, which was later collected along with other material for A Collection Of Pop Classics.

I want to immediately shit-can this idea, however I totally understand where he's coming from about the range of their catalog. I'm usually against bands doing this (carrying on without their frontman) but I'd rather listen to these guys than most contemporary bands that attempt to do the same thing. I'm also glad they aren't changing the name or trying to update it. 'Bush Youth' would be fucking retarded, they are keeping the spirit alive with what they created. Reagan Youth indeed.

also, i think the spirit of the band, the issues they tackled lyrically and politically, and all of that is something that transcend who's currently the president. the world still has racism, fascism, homophobia, blahblah, and humorous but serious criticism* of those things is sorely needed.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Although Gorilla Biscuits are slightly better than Paint it Black....and yeah Lawrence Arms are better than Jawbreaker...but not by much. Same with NOFX, they are better than the Descendents but not by much.

Yes other than Propaghandi you are TOTALLY WRONG! But thats just my opinion. Jeez,if only for the obvious contention that your preferences are so obvioulsy wrapped around your age. ITd be one thing to deny the "cannonization" of one band over the other if they were contemporaries, but to have all your preffered's be some one who rode iin on the trail blazed by the latter band.....pretty much makes you a stupid fucking kid who bows to the primal instinct to dis anything that came out before your pubes did.Even to the point of hating on the very antecedents of the very culture you have globbed onto! I have no inside scoop of which to speak but I know they haven't had an economic boom the last few years. And I don't think any one album is "make or break" for them but it's the general overall sag in sales. And when 40,000 kids talk about an album but 2,000 buy it, something's up.

Most people aren't like us. We are all pretty much fucking nuts. I know it, I've accepted it. I get excited over a piece of vinyl sandwiched between high quality ink and paper.

I think streams are the way to go, give people a taste. Its why I love what the .org does. Its why I think its fucking shitty that anyone was called out on because of a stream. If people aren't going to pay, you can't make them. They will dub/ burn it from somebody else.

Have I downloaded? You bet your fucking ass but they get my money the second the record comes out, I'm always one of the pre-order junkies.

I've purchased a ton of Fat albums over the years. I just went through my collection to get a rough count. It's somewhere around 60. ALL of which I've paid for. So what if I want to hear a new album, say D4, when it leaks and choose to download it illegally. Do I have a "right" to do this? Of course not. But I'm sure as fuck not going to lose any sleep over it, especially when I will still buy it when it is officially released. I've given them a ton of business over the years, so I have no reason to be ashamed.

Just putting my 2 cents in for those retards that apply blanket statements to the people who downloaded Civil War. Not all of us are part of the problem, assholes. Many (I'd say most) of the people on this site buy a ton of music, in most cases probably more than they should.
