Winnipeg's Weakerthans and Newfoundland based rock band Hey Rosetta! have each walked away with $25,000 from the inagural Verge Music Awards. The awards were dolled out at a gala in Toronto on September 24th. The Weakerthans, who recently released Reunion Tour, won "artist of the year" while the St. John's based act won "album of the year" for their record Into Your Lungs. The winners were dermined by online voters and a panel of music programmers from XM Satellite Radio. The Verge is an XM station devoted to Canadian alternative music.
