Polysics: “We Ate the Machine”

Tokyo's Polysics have launched a stream of their new full length We Ate The Machine. The CD and digital version of the new record hits on September 30, 2008 via MySpace Records. We Ate The Machine was released in Japan this past April.

Actually, I was listening to Freedom of Choice on vinyl as I opened Punknews.

So I'd have to Freedom of Choice. By the way, get New Traditionalists and Duty Now For The Future!

This band rules although I sort of like their earlier stuff a little more. The newer stuff is really really poppy in that Japanese way.

I can't get into these guys, but one of my favourite releases this year is by We Are the Physics, who I think do a much more interesting/listenable job of taking some of Devo's style and turning it into something of their own.

I saw them open for the Aggrolites and they absolutely killed it. They had a guy in the crowd just like them whose only purpose was running around blowing a whistle to the beat of every song. Then the keyboardist had pom poms. It was amazing.

This album is awesome, just like all their albums; but the English versions of the first two songs suck. It sounds like Hayashi is just reading the lyrics off a piece of paper for the first time. Go download the Japanese versions to hear them sung better.

Listening to a load of less obvious Devo stuff in the car this morning, the early 'Hardcore' stuff is superb, later tracks like 'Jimmy' are genius ;)
