what happens if something happens to McCain right before the election? Does Palin become the candidate? Do they delay it? Do they quickly put a different write in candidate in there? For some reason I have a bad feeling something will happen and the republicans will have the chance to put someone else in there at the 11th hour and everyone will uber-rally around them.

I think party bosses can do whatever they want (except pick a two-term president). They'd probably pick Palin and choose a VP for her. Palin-Romney '08? I don't think there'd be a huge rally of moderate voters for a newly appointed candidate, though. I bet Obama would easily win.

I saw Attack In Black open for the Cons earlier this year. Never thought much of them until recently when I heard their "Curve of the Earth" album- quite good. That sort of folk-rock would go well on a split with Baby Eagle.
