OC Alternative is reporting that legendary hardcore/punk pioneer Ian MacKaye will be hitting the road later this week for a spoken word/Q&A tour of Southern California. MacKaye was instrumental in the launch of Minor Threat, Embrace, Fugazi, The Evens and Dischord Records.

How come even east coast people only tour the west coast?

i saw him do this a few years ago in san francisco. he didn't come in with a set speech or anything, he just took questions from the audience and responded with a lot of really entertaining stories. it was a lot of fun.

i'm sorry. but fuck ian mackaye. he's such a pretentious sack of shit. i used to respect him until i saw him speak at coachella a few years back.

How bout we just turn back time so I can see Minor Threat in '81 despite being born 7 years after they broke up?
edgelife (October 16, 2008)
In order to still respect myself as a person, I have to post at least 10 times on anything Ian Mackaye related. I mindlessly consume everything that comes out of this man. Lucky for me, it's all good shit.

Is it wrong to get wicked drunk and then rock out to my Minor Threat vinyl records?

Would love to see The Evens play live. Those two records are some of my favorites in recent memory.

For those that are interested ... here's a link to a live set from The Evens in Australia from 2007 ... free (and with artist permission) from The Internet Archive.

How can you combine hardcore and punk? So he was in bands that sounded like The Devil Wears Prada combined with Good Charlotte? Awesome.
edgelife (October 16, 2008)
It's good to see that ole Dischord Records logo up on the org. I say that of course as if I was ever old enough to even see Fugazi play.... God I hate being a new millenium kid.

i'm pretty excited and smacking myself in the forehead at the same time. i've been going the route of experimental stuff, emotional hardcore, good metalcore, real screamo yadayada for a few years now. i really grew away from just straight ahead punk, and i spent the last half hour checking out all this .org stuff that i've written off for so long (larry arms were the only ones i'd listened to previously) and goddamn this is what i've been looking for. thank you punknews people.

quick, how do you personally pronounce "mackaye"
deadXlast (October 17, 2008)
Ian Mackaye is one of the nicest, most down to earth dudes in punk rock.
