Alright, that probably came off a little ruder than I meant it even though your post was kind of rude.

I posted this the other day but I'll say it again.. it blows my mind that so many people can not only identify with but agree with one of five or six candidates enough to vote for them. My political and social views are all over the board, and somewhat extreme. I don't match up with most people in real life, much less a candidate running for political office who is a member of a party with an official party stance on most of the major issues. I disagree a lot both sides of the political spectrum. Yeah, I have a hard time finding a candidate to support, so I'll abstain until I do.

But your perspective of how I am is wrong. I'm well aware of the third party candidates. I'm glad I don't fit your cliche generalization.

If I dislike both candidates and would be happy if both somehow lost and a better candidate were elected, how in ANY way does that preclude me from saying, "Well, if one of these guys is going to win, then I'd rather it be this guy." So you're telling me I should pick the lesser of two evils when it comes to voting, but NOT picking the lesser of two evils when it comes to picking the lesser of two evils? Look at it as two steps. First, I don't like either candidate, so I'm not going to vote for either candidate. That's decided. Second, since one of those two is going to win, I see no reason at all why I can't hope that one beats the other, because of the lesser of two evils argument. Does that mean I should go back to step 1 and vote for that choice? No, because again, I don't want to vote for that person.

My "choosing to do nothing" isn't choosing to do nothing. Who are you voting for? Just for the sake of this discussion let's say it's Obama. How would you feel if the only two options were Bush and Dick Cheney? Would you vote for the lesser of two evils? If so, good for you. for me, bridge and tunnel played the set of the weekend. never seen a band play so passionately and energetically. and they're real friendly too, i ran into jeff and tia a couple of times at the fest and they were real down to earth.

other highlights:
rehasher - ghostbusters outfits, promise of new album, tight as fuck set. awesome!
a wilhelm scream - slight bias as i'm a huge fan, but their set was solid.
the menzingers - stage invasion!
hour of the wolf - fuckin' scary in the most awesome way possible.

Look, I understand you're pro-third party. That's a tremendous thing. But, honestly, anyone who is in a swing state is doing liberal causes a disservice by voting for Nader this year. It's a vote that could go to Obama and, despite the fact that he's not the be-all and end-all of change in America, he'll certainly do a lot more for the country than John McCain. Remember, every vote not for Obama is a chance missed to one-up McCain. Nader will never be president, and he certainly won't be this year, so why not help a candidate who could use it?

Paul believes in evolution. As far as abortion, yes they have differences on that issue (as i did with Paul; i'm radically pro-choice). But Paul understands that Nader has the right idea about things.

Some stuff - the health care system, the economy, etc. - will HAVE to be reformed by nature of what is happening with them right now. Will change be for the better? Time will tell.

No, but he's implying that Obama will keep the status quo going. By virtue of the times we're living in, the status quo is going to be shaken up no matter who gets in. Obama has the more liberal approach out of Obama and McCain. Nader isn't a viable option. A vote for Nader is like throwing a donut at a cop because you're sick of the system.

i'm not entirely sure how their economic plans are really that different - they're arguing over a few percentage points in the capital-gains tax. whoop-ee. Obama has a weak and watered-down health-care plan, and so does McCain. great.

and i didn't say "revolution" - but its an ignorant statement to say there will be real change after January 2009 if Obama is elected. there will be small things - but the basic power structures will still remain, stronger than ever.

This is typical Nader: Idealistic to a fault. Sure in a vacuum, his ideas are great. But unfortunately, in the real political world, there are adversaries, powerful adversaries who can create narratives that will destroy your chance at getting the office you are running for.

Obama already has comparisons to Jimmy Carter, whose presidency was seen as one of the worst ever. Obama already has a disproportionately high number of people who think he is a Muslim terrorist. What good is speaking at a mosque going to do?

Fuck Nader and his fucking blinders. He knows why Obama campaigns the way he does, he just wants to be a prick and say that he has the high ground over Obama because he can because he has nothing to lose.

A volunteer told her not to be behind Obama with her scarf while he spoke. I went to an Obama rally on Saturday. There are volunteers EVERYWHERE and I'm sure quite a few didn't know everything about the operation. Obama didn't do a thing wrong here, save for him personally apologizing for someone else's mistake.

But that's why I love question time on cspan. Can you imagine if our president had to be able to get up and answer questions like that? Bush would get fucking destroyed. Same thing with either president or vice president candidate we have now. At least some of the third party candidates are intelligent and could hold a conversation while being bombarded with questions like that without being political and slanting everything.

(and for the random poster who is going to come in and say that Nader is being political and slanting his view...he isn't. It's meant to be his opinion. He isn't trying to pass it off as political rallying like what McCain and Obama intentionally do. This is actually Nader's opinion and he isn't trying to pander to anyone. Almost every thing I write on here is against the idea of being spoon fed another's ideology and beliefs. Also, the perception that the US education system sucks is awkwardly wrong. The US education system sucks because in many schools the students don't get a decent education. It sucking has nothing to do with anyone pushing politics down our throats. From elementary school through college, I've only had 1 or 2 teachers who was openly biased and intentionally influencing, and the students in both classes routintely resisted their spoon fed bullshit.

I feel sorry and scared for your stereotypes, that are probably based on your own prejudices and misinformed opinions than real life facts.

Idealism is cute, but it doesn't win you elections, Mr. Nader never really got that about democracy. Take his bit about Obama's failure to visit a Mosque, although i too think it is unfortunate; it's not terribly surprising. Mr. Nader mentioned that even Bush took the time to visit one, but Bush didn't have Hussein as a middle name, Bush wasn't black, and Bush wasn't facing constant questioning of his religious faith like Obama.
