Blake Schwarzenbach's new band debuts

According to this report, Jawbreaker and Jets To Brazil's Blake Schwarzenbach played a surprise set on November 9th at the Jerk house in Sunset Park.

Unfortunately, details on the show are a little thin, but the revealing of a new project from the songwriter and college professor coincides with Blake's own recent announcement.

Obviously it's someone's house/brownstone and thus not very public info, and I'm not originally from around here and know mostly other transplants so I'm not surprised at my cluelessness. But it took me a minute to make sure they were talking about Brooklyn and not some other Sunset Park that may exist... cool shit actually happens in my neighborhood?! What?

Other than teaching me to play some extremely fun and gratifying melodies, I'd say the opposite actually. Listening to Jawbreaker has always made me even more depressed and drunk while already as such.

This will obviously not be bad. It seems a departure for both, though they share many influences and stomping grounds -- often a recipe for killer collaborations it seems. The archetypal Cometbus bands are, in my mind, the Blank Fight and Retard Beaters -- bad production, sloppy, short and self-deprecatingly fun. All the opposite of Blake's work, which has been clean, slow and poppy for a decade and a half.

Hopefully it's long-term enough to make it to the studio intact; Aaron's bands are always short-lived. Who else saw him fill in with TBIAPB at Fest 3? Oh, Sidebar...most clubs aren't so nonchalant about the crowd ripping your mirror ball out of the ceiling and deliberately smashing it.
