Billie Joe talks about forthcoming Green Day album

In a new interview, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong talked a little about their forthcoming full length:

I'm pushing myself to be progressive in songwriting and being a songwriter. I come from a culture where I'm into great albums, and I still believe in that. I'm fiddling more with the arrangements and writing songs. I think the way we make records is just kind of a classic way of making records. Everybody uses Pro Tools now, you know--we use Pro Tools, and we use tape.

Yeah, but due to the distributor chain and dealer network, as many as a million people could lose their jobs in one year. That's insane. This isn't financial fatcats worried about having to hock their plasma TVs. This is actual jobs and could possibly trigger a depression. I tenatively support an auto bailout, but only if the bailout stipulates 1) it's a loan, to be paid back in full, and 2) automakers are going to have change their strategy and start building and making available affordable hybrids and even electric cars.

If anyone in Washington is capable of making a smart decision, this has the potential to be the first stone in the arduous task that is going to be solving our energy problems.

Yeah, that is a good point. GM has their hands in a lot of stuff. I think the CEO's of these companies (any company asking for help) should receive $0 in bonuses and have their salaries cut down dramatically. Also if they do get the bailout it should come from the 700 billion that was set aside for the banks. I also heard that when all is said and done it could cost up to 7 trillion to bail everyone out and give the economic stimulous checks that the gov wants to hand out. Our dollar is going to be so worthless if they print that much money. Scary, scary shit.

I do, but there needs to be strict regulations and oversight.

Thousands of workers are directly employed by the big three, and there are thousands more who's jobs are connected directly to them (ie manufacturing parts, ect). The impact their downfall will have can not even be compared to say Starbucks.

They need to be helped, but they need to face restrictions, ie caps on CEO salaries and a moratorium on bonuses, and scrap the fucking private jets. Unions should also consider taking a pay cut.

Support an auto maker bailout but with the strict oversight, stipulations, regulations, etc. laid out in the NY Times editorial pages recently. Outline spending. Impose serious fuel efficiency standards. New top management for all but Ford. Don't break unions.

I'm irritated by the politicians who are up in arms about $25 billion now, but two months ago didn't have all that much to say about $700 billion.

Apparently there's going to be 'three acts' on this album (Act 1- “ Heroes and Cons”; Act 2 – “Charlatans and Saints” - Act 3 "Horseshoes and Handgrenades").

Sounds like they're trying to re-create the american idiot narrative type idea. It's going to be interesting!

Not excited about another concept album. I was kinda hoping they'd go the route they did after Dookie and make another deliberately non-commercial record ala Insomniac.
