T.S.O.L. team up with Hurley to offer next album for free

SoCal punk legends T.S.O.L. have announced that their next album will be a free release. Hurley will be the corporate force behind the band's venture into digital distribution and recording having let the band record in their studio. They'll also be streaming video of the recording process.

The record is (perhaps jokingly) titled Life-Liberty-and the pursuit of free downloads currently and is due out next month.

Okay, that was a lie, St. Louis doesn't have a scene, you'd totally own us. We've got like 3 teenagers who think they can play guitar and a bunch of asshole drummers. And Ultraman.

But seriously man, that sounds like it sucks. Being in a place where there never really was any history or anything, we all just kind of go with it. Most bands don't tour here, most venues shut down because they lose money, and most labels will completely ignore any band that comes from here unless you're Story of the Year or the Urge.

Sometimes I take for granted that we're one stop most bands will always hit on a tour. We haven't put out a well known punk band in a while.

Love your influences by the way. Nah, this isn't shitty. This is really good. We don't really have too many local bands with songwriting quality and recording quality like this. Truthfully, the Humanoids are the only ones that have too great of recording quality (not that it matters a ton), but I think that's because one of them gave Naked Raygun a blowjob or something.

It means a fucking lot, dude. I just really want to get somewhere before I leave highschool--even just a small label. It's tough paying everything yourself. Hahaha to the blow job. In terms of recording quality, this guy Joe Mitra does the magic there; he mixed a lot of the new paint it black and some work with Modern Life Is War. We get lucky.

If we somehow ever get to your place, I'll make sure to get a hold of you.

That'd be awesome. I'm hoping to get out of here in a year or so though. Maybe go to Chicago, I don't know. Need some place with a university that wants me so that I can remain in debt to their tuition for the rest of my life.

Just make short demos and burn them onto CDs and send them off to every independent label you can think of. It's not the kind of thing that'll get you signed, but you can get a lot of feedback from people that way. I've noticed that the people that live around me either don't pay attention to the music I make, or just tell me it's good because they're my friend. Labels are a great place to get brutally honest opinions on your music. I mean, fuck, they get like 80 billion demos a day, so if they say something positive about you, you've gotta feel good about that.
