Tours: The Weakerthans (Canada)

The Weakerthans have announced a cross-Canada tour for March, April and May 2009. Canadians outside of Ontario and Quebec will be happy to know that the band is hitting dates all over the country. Yes, even the Yukon.

The band released Reunion Tour in 2007.

The last time I was at a weakerthans concert in toronto, there was a group of people who shouted at them to come to North Bay, and John K Samson laughed and said: "i'd love to come to North Bay!"

Ha, I was in North Bay for the past 5 years, and the only decent bands that I saw were Matthew Good, Tokyo Police Club (which apparently sold terribly), and Sainte Catherines (that latter wasn't Nipissing-related). Now I'm in Guelph, and look who's coming!

I was at the Tokyo Police Club show as well. Buddha said he wasn't likely to bring that type of band in anymore, following the poor turnout. I was disappointed. But I just passed the word along to him that there is nothing booked for three days between the Ottawa and Toronto shows. I played open mic at the wall last month, and did a cover of "Psalm of the Elk's Lodge Last Call", and I got a pretty good response from it. A good omen, perhaps...

Good luck. I still have some friends in North Bay, and I'm sure some of them would be thrilled if the Weakerthans came. Plus, while I'm not a huge fan of the Wall as a venue (or at all, for that matter), it'd certainly be a much more intimate and preferable environment there than at their show in Toronto, for instance.

I am not a club fan in general. It's the best venue I've ever been in, though. I'm kind of biased since I don't get to go to many shows, though. I was pretty big into Anti-Flag and Rise Against when they played there as well, so I have fond memories of the place.

I've seen the weakerthans three times in toronto, the smallest venue was the phoenix. the smaller the venue the better, anything to get more "intimate" with john k samson...

The Phoenix is still pretty big, though. It's an okay place (it's the largest venue I'll willingly go see bands play), and I know it's wishful thinking to want The Weakerthans to play at smaller venues, but still...

That's why seeing 'bigger' bands in small cities can have a lot of benefits. When Tokyo Police Club played North Bay, the crowd was pretty sparse, despite the fact that even at that time, TPC had shows lined up in Toronto that were already sold out.

Holy shit. This made my day. Just yesterday I was thinking how much I wanted to see the Weakerthans play again, and then this.

Fourth time seeing them, and only four days after my nineteenth birthday. Now I can finally be granted access to the exclusive 19+ section in the Phoenix, which, for some reason unknown to me, takes up more than half the venue.

honestly i'm having trouble coming up with reasons to keep seeing them live. hopefully the set is differently than the one they've played on the last 2-3 tours through.

if it's with the constantines, however....that i'd see.

Sweet, Victoria. I missed these guys when they actually played my town, because they played at the shit fest music festival we have, and I didn't feel like spending $130 just to see The Weakerthans, as much as I might love them.
