Grey Goose is the most hilarious example of the influence of advertising I can think of. It's incredibly mediocre. It's not bad per se, but there is nothing above average about it. Yet put it in a fancy bottle, take some photos of celebrities drinking it, and people go apeshit. If you're in the market for classy vodka, get Ketel One. Tastes way better for barely over half the price.

jim beam is a good standby. subtle sweetness, not harsh.

but a bit bland.

i usually go for makers, basil hayden, or bulliet when price isnt much of an issue. i drink it neat. but seriously, about any bourbon will do. i've never had a bourbon that wasnt good. even old crow, one of the cheapest (and one of the first) bourbons is really good.

occasionally i'll drink a gin and tonic. even more rarely, i'll drink a bit of rum or tequila, but it had better be blazing hot outside, and i had better be sitting on a chair on the beach drinking it out of a coconut with a little umbrella in it.

for those that are all about the grey goose, i do not understand you. vodka lacks flavor. the better the vodka, the more like water it tastes. you're wasting your money on a brand name and expensive bottle. the ingredients are almost the same. plus most people drink that shit with a mixer, which completely ruins any subtlety of flavors left.

They're all good, but beer's easier to maintain a nice level of drunkness, where as spirits are taking you on the fast train to fuckedsville. Proper beer as well none of this lager, Euro fizz shite.

i'm mostly with you BUT, i find that i don't get too terrible drunk if i sip a nice whiskey (buffalo trace is awesome) straight up with a glass of water.

easiest way to not get too effed is to drink guinness. it goes down slow and has a low alcohol content. i have, on occasion, sipped the deliciousness for 12 hours straight and maintained a nice happy buzz.

Session drinking needs a low alcohol content, guiness is good but you feel like you've eaten 3 meals after 6+ pints. It needs to be flat, it needs to be bitter and your session is on.

Try a depth charge- Guinness and Tia Maria, drop it in after the pint is poured, one way ticket to drunkensville.

Gentleman Jack is my fav, most Bourbons are good, Jim is ok, its the well in most bars here in my town. Johnny Black is good, nice and smokey. Most Irish whiskey is way overrated, tastes like watered down scotch. Jameson is the worst but I guess its cool to drink it if you're some kinda cool punk rocker. I have a bottle of Evan Williams at home right now, actually not bad for cheap whiskey.

I also have a 70 dollar bottle of Oban single malt at home from my bar that closed, that's fucking amazing.
