Gaslight Anthem appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien last night and a video of the performance is available online. The band performed "The '59 Sound" taken from The '59 Sound.

Is it just me, or could the guitarist totally be Pete Steinkopf's little brother? 2+ Replies

I just can't get over how close they resemble Springsteen. 4+ Replies

Alright, well since the folks so far have either turned on them or just plain don't like them, I'll be the first to say I thought it sounded pretty good. I was glad they played The 59 Sound over Old White Lincoln. 3+ Replies

Good performance. Most bands on Conan sound like shit but they really pulled it off even though the mixing was iffy. 1+ Reply

Sounds pretty good. Not too big a fan of the band or the album, really (they're ok, but I'm not crazy over them), but this is a nice song. Not a bad performance, but the sound on these shows are always a little weak. Vocals sound pretty sweet, though. A little different than in the studio, but that's not always a bad thing. 1+ Reply

havent really heard this band before, moderately impressed, what everyones saying about it sounding like third-rate Springsteen is true. if they were a diy band, i'd probably love 'em. 5+ Replies

My g/f commented that it sounded like shit. True I think the vocals were a little too far out in front but live with him sounding a little gruff almost sounded like Sink or Swim TGA. The new album is awesome but my one complaint would be its a little too slick but live it must be great. 1+ Reply

So, anybody really dig this band while always finding Springsteen cheesy and kind of lame? I think they do Springsteen better than The Boss (come on, admit it, even the nickname is lame as fuck). 11+ Replies

I've got a question. I am not from the US of A and I was wondering, now that MTV doesn't play videos anymore, what good music channels are there left? A lot of bands make at least one video for everyone of their albums. So... what's the use if no one will play them? Just to make Internet fans happy? 6+ Replies

I like GA, but I bet Max Weinberg was sitting off-stage thinking he had heard that voice somewhere before... something about an E Street Band... 4+ Replies

Wow. Whole lotta hate on this site. It's a shame. I'd never heard this band before I saw them open for the 'Souls in May. And really, I couldn't remember the last time I'd been so blown away by a band that I wasn't familiar with. It felt like when I was in high school and seeing my first punk shows and feeling a sensation that I had been missing out on something really special. Also, the passion and genuine enjoyment from Gaslight's singer is awfully contagious and is one of the more captivating aspects of their live show. I hope this band gets huge. They play solid rock 'n roll and they've worked hard for what they've acheived thus far. It'd be great if everyone could get over the whole 'Springsteen' thing and just have an objective opinion. Music goes in cycles, dudes. And besides, I would much rather have a show rest of comment 1+ Reply

This performance wasn't very good. They were boring and his voice sounded like shit. They are much better live than that.

I've never seen a good live video of this band, but the two times I saw them, they were spot on,

I don't really post on here much but me and my friend read the comments on here a lot. Some of the comments are amazing. We met up to see Smoke or Fire two weeks ago and spent a good 10 minutes talking about comical org posts while his girlfriend and two other friends looked on....geekz! 3+ Replies

Greatest band out there right now. Along with Polar Bear Club, Cobra Skulls and D4. And to me, i'm right.

The Gaslight Anthem did the best job that they could have under the circirmstances of having almost no control over the situation. A live performance is almost nothing like the studio version, so if you want to hear that kind of crap music go buy a Jonas Bros album and suck your thumb. I personally wanted to hear The Backseat.
TheMexican (December 10, 2008)
Jesus, you could barely hear the fucking drums. Oh well, still pretty good.

As a fan, that was a shitty performance.... maybe just the sound, I don't know.

How the FUCK are these guys so popular around here? There are so many indie rock bands reviewed on this site that get mocked by nearly the whole punknews community. What makes these clowns any different?

well I can see that Brian has completely stopped trying to not blatantly sound like The Boss. 1+ Reply

One of the consistantly great live bands out there right now. My favorite This Charming Man stuff was with Brian Fallon anyway, so it made perfect sense that the Gaslight Anthem would be just as good, if not better and to me, I'm right. I see them whenever I can, can't wait for the new album. 1+ Reply
Misanthropee (December 10, 2008)
Decent song, AWFUL guitar sound, and I watched it on TV through my fancy stereo. It might be the band's fault for bringing minimal amps to a show accustomed to hosting bigger groups with big equipment, but it seems to me the sound folks there could have done SOMETHING to make those little Voxs or whatever sound a bit bigger... 1+ Reply

He changed the vocal melodies way too much for my taste. Sounded like he forgot how it was supposed to go.
