All I'm saying is when a band is universally gushed over on this website and rises to damn-near fame very quickly, within a year and a half to 2 years that band usually goes too far in some capacity and suddenly is universally despised.

I don't go through phases. I've been listening to the same bands (NUFAN, Lagwagon, Alkaline Trio, MxPx) since I was 11 years old dude.

You can pretend that there aren't flash-in-the-pan bands like the Gaslight Anthem who will be popular with punk fans for a year maybe and then blow up with the hipster crowd and suddenly the punk fans don't like them and then the hipsters' interest trails off and they move on to the next big thing... but it still happens.

I'm not saying that every band that happens to is bad. It happened to Modest Mouse and I still think they're pretty cool although I haven't really listened to them since I was like 16. Against Me is another good example, and I don't like their music but I don't have anything against them.

It's all a matter of opinion broooo. At least the vocals in Slapstick and Crimpshrine matched their sound (rough vocals matching their rough music), whereas Gaslight has faux-crooner vocals over a punk influenced sound. Plus Crimpshrine was 16 year old drug addicts who used shitty equipment, the fact that they could make something beautiful out of nothing totally negates the fact that the singing is sub-par.

Oh I totally agree, I would say a majority of the music I listen to has weird vocals. Gaslight's just annoy me on a whole new level, it doesn't fit the music to me. Annoying voices are kind of a niche thing, where it will turn people off but be intriguing to some. The vocals in Gaslight turn me off.

There will always be bands that become more successful and well liked than the average discerning punk rocker thinks is cool. If you don’t like it, no one is forcing you to listen. Personally, if the mainstream were to shift into to a place where it draws more influence from Thunder Road and The Replacements and less from vocoders, celebrity worship, sexism and general idiocy – I am ok with that.

Leno is easily the least funny of all talk show hosts, I'd rather see fucking Pat Sajack get his own show.

Yeah, I thought it was a good performance. I would have liked to have watched it on my tv because the sound on my computer is fairly shitty, but other then that, it was good.

i thought they seemed pretty nervous/uptight but it's one of the best sounding performances i've seen on that show for sure.

I thought it was ok. The sound is usually complete shit on these late-night talk shows when bands play.

Yeah, I just picked it up along with Hold Me Up. They're both great, and I really like the whole fast/punk style of HMU. Superstar Car Wash is awesome too. 'Cuz Your Gone has some pretty sweet sounding guitars.

Bruce Springsteen is great. I don't get what's not to love about his music. Like others have suggested, listen to Nebraska or Greetings from Asbury Park and perhaps you will change your tune. Mary Queen of Arkansas is one of the best songs I have ever heard.

i totally agree...and by the way My Chemical Romance are way better than Queen and Destiny's Child blow away the Supremes.

I love The Gaslight Anthem, but haven't really been able to get into the Boss.

I've got nothing against Letterman, but I've just never liked his show. He's not funny to me at all. I actually prefer Leno over Letterman, cause at least Leno started out as a stand-up comic and whatnot. And I like the Leno/Kevin relationship better than the Letterman/bald guy relationship. But haven't watched either show in a few years anyway so I guess I don't really care. I've always liked Conan the best though, but I'm never up late enough to catch him. As long as Conan is taking all the same people with him I don't think he'll change anything
