Nevertheless I, too, felt moved by his speech in the park that night in Chicago, seeing Jesse Jackson cry and wondering how Martin Luther King, Jr would have felt. I can only imagine how much this would have meant to Wesley Willis. And, yes, I am glad that the adult version of the Eraserhead baby and his pitbull pal were not handed the keys to the White House. I guess that's why it hurts so much more when the guy we all wish we could hang out with when we see him on TV turns around and backs the wrong position on something important. The rest of the introduction, along with the entire letter itself, is available online here.
Legendary punk frontman, label owner, and spoken word artist Jello Biafra has written an open letter to President-elect Barack Obama. The outspoken Biafra has included in the letter his political opinions and positions on issues that he has formerly discussed in his spoken word performances and other outlets. Says Biafra in his own introduction of the letter:

Jello is just one more moralist in an ocean of righteous moralizers. Just call him St. Jello. Every criticism is harsher and more radical sounding than the last -- we, the US, are guilty of genocide and mass murder; Cheney is the Devil himself, George Bush is the anti-Christ and Hitler rolled into one, the Republicans are Nazis, the Constitution has been gutted and the country sold to the highest bidder, its 1984 only worse, WE'RE the terrorists!! and so on All of this sound and fury builds and intensifies and boils until..we get to the prescriptions for "change". So does Jello call for the forces of production to be freed from the fetters of private property relations? Well..no, he doesn't. Does he call for the workers to rise up and overturn their dismal and untenable social conditions? Does he even call for a shitty sell-out brand of show rest of comment 13+ Replies

i like jello and all, and he's clearly a pretty smart guy, but the idea that he has 4000 words worth of ideas so unique, insightful, and ultimately correct– that they could not have POSSIBLY even occurred to barack obama– who, being a harvard law grad, us senator, and now president-elect, is both better educated and surely better informed than jello himself– is pretty laughable. 2+ Replies

Obama is nothing more but a puppet politican. He does what he has to do to get elected. Do you really think he agreed with Rev Wright? No. He just knew the only way to get elected would be to seem like he was part of the community.

you know what sucks? Being human. Just about every creature under the sun has some sweet superpowers. What the fuck do we have? reason and logic? Please. I'd accept being a drooling slave to my appetites if it meant I could fly/see in the dark/run super fast/climb a vertical incline/etc. 3+ Replies

If he cares SOOOOO much about politics, why the hell doesn't he just run for office instead? Does he think he has more pull and sway as a punk dinosaur? Or, let me guess, he's too GOOD to be a part of the corrupt, evil American government. Yeah, sure. Then stop paying your taxes and supporting them you dink. 8+ Replies

An open letter to Eric Reed Boucher,
Good points. Except your take on the "Fairness" Doctrine. You moan, "But when no one--even the target of a personal attack--is a llowed to reply...democracy goes out the window." They DO have a chance to reply. It's called Air America. They DO have a chance to reply in the form of invitations from conservative talk-show hosts. Blowhard Janeane Garafalo was invited to debate on the Larry Elder Show. She didn't have the guts to show up. Blowhard Bill Maher was on last month, and when Larry repeatedly asked him to explain his Libertarian credentials, this gutless moron said, in a whiny voice, "I don't want to have this conversation anymore," and hung up like the little bitch that he is. Though Hannity, O'Reilley, and others can be obnoxio show rest of comment

He wants Obama to prosecute scores of people in the Bush administration. Brilliant idea, just think of the precident that would set. I honestly don't think it's a smart idea to establish the trend of spending your first two years in office putting your previous political opponents in jail. This just screams "Night of the Long Knives". | Features
