Thorns of Life announces Los Angeles show

Blake Schwarzenbach's new band. The Thorns of Life have announced another California show for January. The band features the influential Jawbreaker and Jets To Brazil frontman on guitar, Aaron Elliott of the Cometbus zine, Crimpshrine and Pinhead Gunpowder on drums and actress / musician Daniela Sea on bass. Sea performed in Berkeley punk rock acts the Gr'ups and Cypher In The Snow and most recently appeared on Showtime series The L Word.

This show is scheduled for Friday, January 23rd in Los Angeles, California at The Center for Arts, Eagle Rock. Tickets are eight dollars and will be available through Fuck Yeah Fest's myspace page.

The show comes a few days prior to a January 31st show at 924 Gilman Street.

Yeah, you need to go to more local smaller shows. 15 people isn't bad. I've played everything from a crowd of 60 to a crowd of 5 in small underground show. Don't expect lots of people on sunday.

The band thing was looking good but then I found out the guitarist who my buddy knew already has a full time gig and I don't want a side project. Although my younger sister and I started recording some demos of lo-fi/acoustic/twee stuff but she needs a new guitar cuz all she has is a cheap acoustic at the moment.

Well, it's snowing like a mother fucker on top of the snow that still hasn't melted, I leave for Cali in a few hours, I have a friend attempting to pick me up soon if he can make it up the giant hill, and if not, I have to trek a mile or so to the bus stop because shuttles are booked, taxis take too long and are unreliable, and the snow is too deep for my car to make it out of my driveway. Wish me luck!

Thing is, it never snows this much in the lowlands of WA, this is insane, and no one is ever prepared for it. We usually have mild weather, where it snows a couple days a year and we're solid, but it hasn't left the ground in like 2 weeks, just not used to this.

Yeah that really sucks. Here we usually get our first snow in October and last in March or April, so I should be used to it. But we got 8 or so inches in Detroit this last weekend, then 4 more last night alternating with the freezing rain. Today it's like 35 and rainy and I have to go outside and across the street at work to smoke. Sucks to be me. But yeah, have fun in California!

ditto. I'd feel horribly uncomfortable just hearing anyone in my family (besides my brother) discussing it. It's funny how families are so different. My friend in high school, I'd go to his house, and everyone would just be SCREAMING at each other at the top of their lungs constantly. The first time I was like..."what the hell, should I leave?" Turns out that's just how they talked to each other. They were portuguese or something. I don't know if that had anything to do with it.
