Into the Moat: "From 1000 Meters"

Technical metalcore outfit Into the Moat have posted a new song from their follow up to 2005's Metal Blade debut, The Design:

The record is titled The Campaign and is due out February 17, 2009. You can find the song on their myspace page.

technically speaking we call it metalcore but colloquially we can just call it poop squish.

If it wasn't for the vocals the music wouldn't be that bad. I'm back.

I don't see how it's an oxymoron. I'd say about half of the bands that get slagged off is because of their excessive technicality and lack of good song structure.

You know it's gonna be better than average tech metal because they use the metric system.

Actually, this was better than I expected. It makes me happy that all the dudes don't look like twats playing dress-up, and the music was actually genuinely heavy and, yes, technical.

If I liked metal, I would care more.

I get this sneaking suspicion that you have a particular distaste for the term "metalcore". Am I way off?

Well I was gonna complain about the vocals too but I thought fuck it, when was the last time I heard a metal band with really unique vocals that made me say "holy shit, I've never heard anything this insane!!"?

The answer is Pig Destroyer.

But other than that, complaining about vocals in metal is like complaining about power-pop band's hair. It's always gonna be there, sucking, and there's not much you can do about it so just take it up the butt or leave it be.
