Lifetime leaves Fueled By Ramen

Lifetime and Fueled By Ramen/Decaydance have apparently parted ways. The influential melodic hardcore act has been moved to the "alumni" section of the website. The band signed to label and released one record, 2007's Lifetime.

The signing and presence on the label was very controversial, both due to Decaydance being owned by Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and the rather disparate artists on the label.

After all the complaints I heard (including the subshit job they did on the vinyl LP) I'm not surprised. Too bad, I was kind of hoping it would prove that at least Decaydance is a decent label...maybe not.

Even though Decaydance pulled a pretty respectful promotion campaign that was very fitting to the vibe of the band, the record pretty much totally bombed.

Why? Because it's not a very good record, that's why.

Agreed. Less than 3 years ago Good Charlotte was my favorite band. Yeah, I just admitted that. So I would know... the record at many points sounded exactly like Good Charlotte, but sometimes with a faster beat.

Oh here we go again...

You don't sign to a label for life, you sign for an amount of records. The deal with lifetime was famously one record with no strings attached, with even members of the band saying that "pete wentz is the only one crazy enough to get behind this little reunion venture"-

It was for one record and that records cycle has been long dead and the partnership is therefore ended.

Lifetime could've had any label on earth release the self-titled. The decaydance signing was all about giving late 30/40 somethings a check. Had they done the same type of signing during their hayday, they would've crippled their credibility. Which, in fact, is ultimatly what happened anyway. Moral: up the punx and do what your fans would hope you would do.

Furthermore, the fact that PIB's Lexicon is number one on a number of year end lists both here and abroad intrigues me. The record is subpar, typical hardcore with "nifty" little electro segues. Refused did it 10 years ago, and did it better.

Ok, so you're competly clueless and don't know any facts to base anything on.

They didn't get a check. The record, all in all, cost over a hundred grand, which is standard with labels (who aren't completly diy and ghetto) and it didn't recoup. It just wasn't a very good record and even longtime fans skipped on it after hearing a few songs.
No label, i reapeat NO label would get behind the record since they did not looking to tour on it at all and members from Lifetime were quoted saying that a new record wouldn't have happened withuot Decaydance.

And also, get a set of ears, New Lexicon is a intense record from a band at their height, Refused always sounded like a sloppy nu-metal band and Shape is their worst record by far.

moving foward, i never said lexicon sucked, i just think its typical at best and way over-hyped because of who's in the band.

but I have met less than a dozen other people who even know who lifetime is
(that doesnt even mean they are fans). They are NOT that big of a band

Only a label run by a fan of the band would consider releasing the record

i think it's just that everybody's happy to see another PiB album out. They're all pretty stand-up musicians, but i have to agree that new lexicon didn't do as much for me as previous releases.

Sickboi got it right in 2005, and continues to get it right. PIB's discs are good, but they will never top CVA. Any fan of punk/hardcore that hears CVA and doesn't immediately think, "Jesus Christ, this is brilliant." is absolutely deaf, dumb, or both.

Loved the 7" and really, really like the LP. While Jersey's Best Dancers could never be topped, it was still not a tarnish on their legacy by any means. Would love to see them release something (as signees) on BYO, No Idea, Jade Tree....not Epitaph, please no.

I liked it a lot, too. They were a band I overlooked during their original run and I liked the album so much I gave their back catalogue a second look. Great stuff, all of it.

They're contract was up...so yes they left the label. They will also be releasing more stuff. So you're really only 1 for 3 with that post

Sorry man, I love Hello Bastards and Jersey's Best Dancers. They were the right band at the right time. They were never especially that good live, Ari was always a prick. Those two records were hugely influential. Their reunion was not only a let down, but it really was essentially about the cash for the guys who aren't Yemin (or at least some perceived glory). This is a band who broke as they were getting "too big" and Ari trashed labels like Fat for being too cookie cutter and corporate, etc. To me, their reunion was pretty much irrelevant.

I never saw them in the old days, but I saw them two years ago and they were really good live. Ari was also a nice dude. I don't know much about the reunion, but I've never seen you say a positive thing on this website.

When they start playing again that is...it's all speculation until then.

The last album was good, poppy but good. I was hugely stoked on it before, I'm not sure it has held up to my initial stokage but there are a few tunes I'd throw up with some of my favourite Lifetime and the rest is pretty darn solid.

There is nothing on it that would make me cringe or say sellout because while a hardcore band they were sort of a pop band too. I've heard a lot of people say back in the day it wasn't really cool to like Lifetime in the hardcore scene, I guess it still isn't.

Honestly I could care less what label they are on. I would like to see another record as they have planned. Reading posts on this band I am not sure people even know much about them... Yeah I am an old head (32), so I did see these guys during the original go around. What you had to understand is that back then these guys were playing with bands like the cro-mags, 108, snapcase. It was a totally different vibe when they would play and everyone loved it. At the time very few bands of note were playing the melodic hardcore that has become bastardized with this shitty emo tag now. You had bands like 7 seconds, endpoint, stuff like that. So seeing "fat" Ari and doc Yemen getting up there with a totally different sound was something great. This is one of the reasons they had such a strong following. To be honest I do love all their stuff, but if you put it against similar

I also enjoyed their latest effort, more for a blast from the past then on it's own merit to be honest, so I can see why a lot of people who did not know of this band considered it nothing special. It was pretty much what I expected. Not as rough as background and their 7"s and not as good as hello and jerseys, but it was without a doubt a lifetime album. As long as they continue to make music and have a show every now and then in Jersey or NYC, that is good enough for me,

I loved the s/t like nobody's fucking business. The first time I spun it I started jizzing through the first song and didn't stop until the whole thing was over, and I had to be put on an IV for two days because I was so dehydrated.

If I had to bitch about it, I would say, "Where are the quiet parts?" But I don't even really care that much, I'll listen to Background if I want slow, mopey stuff.

I love Lifetime,but I was sorta underwhelmed by the s/t.The production was overdone I think,too much polish and you lose what makes them so good to see live.

I don't care who they sign with,I just want another album to come out.
