Tony Sly debuts solo material, outlines 2009 plans

No Use For A Name frontman Tony Sly has announced his intention to release a solo acoustic record and tour behind it in 2009. Quoth Mr. Sly:

Just a quick update, I've pretty much finished writing my album for my solo project and will release it in 2009. Im super stoked on it and hope you will be too! Prior to releasing it, I'll be doing some west coast shows in March and will post the dates as soon as they become available.

You can check out some demos at Sly's myspace page. This won't be Sly's first foray into solo music, having released a split acoustic record with Joey Cape in 2004. No Use For A Name released The Feel Good Record of the Year in 2008.

I hope this is better than his side of the Joey Cape split. That record is like a school project that two partners worked on without really consulting with each other. Joey Cape showed up to class with this crazy, intricate diorama, and Tony Sly just had some chicken-scratch notes on a torn up piece of paper. Whoops.

Hmm, I actually love his side. The acoustic version of Exit is one of my favorite songs. I was thinking more along the lines of that I hope his solo full length is better than Joey Capes..

I'll concede that Joey's solo output has diminished in quality over the years, but Tony Sly is a cornball, and his solo stuff is boring and uninspired.

Another? The only others I can think of are Joey Cape (and Lagwagon isn't shitty), Matt Skiba (and Alkaline Trio had their moments), and Kevin Seconds (are you really gonna tell me that 7 Seconds was shitty?).

Unless of course you're gonna try to tell me that Hot Water Music is pop-punk.

Oh yeah, and NUFAN isn't shitty.

the split with joey was amazing....and as with joey's full-length, let's hope tony has written more new material (even if hearing nufan and lagwagon tracks stripped down was awesome). can't wait for a release date.
