A fan has posted four new videos of Blake Schwarzenbach's new band. The Thorns of Life. The band features the influential Jawbreaker and Jets To Brazil frontman on guitar, Aaron Elliott of the Cometbus zine, Crimpshrine and Pinhead Gunpowder on drums and actress / musician Daniela Sea on bass. Sea performed in Berkeley punk rock acts the Gr'ups and Cypher In The Snow and most recently appeared on Showtime series The L Word.

How does the sound on these compare to the four from the Brooklyn show?

it seems like the internet went from being exclusively liberals bashing bush to exclusively conservatives bashing obama. like every single news-ish site that lets you comment seems to have done a total 180.

I love Jawbreaker, and I know they may be the holy grail of orgcore but really, it doesn't get posted when other bands have shitty videos of them taken live.

I forgot who said it, but I agree, they really need to start taking advantage of the male/female dynamic for harmonies.

there's only a few videos from this show, because after the 4th or 5th song, they actually asked everyone to put away their cameras. the following show in LA, blake was clearly bitter, ranting about youtube.

Seriously considering leaving class to listen to this.

I saw these dudes in L.A. and I was pretty disappointed. They played like 14 songs but none of them stuck and I don't remember a single one. It was basically just boring

The song in video 3 is my favorite. That "my first time" song is win as well.

i hope they play that "vivid green" song...i really liked that

Am I the only one who is a big Jawbreaker and Jets to Brazil fan who thinks this completely sucks and is a HUGE regression. I think the only reason people like this band is the people in it. Other than that most people would think this sucks. I would be way happier if Blake just went back to writing Randy Newman pop ballads again instead of trying to connect with himself from 20 years ago when he can't write those type of songs anymore. Besides he did that better with 2 other dudes who are just sitting around right now...

I saw them two nights ago in SF at The Hemlock, it was great. They booked an entire tour and are doing their best to not tell people about it.
TheWayItShouldBe (January 28, 2009)
Man I didn't think they were ever gonna post this story. The videos have way better sound quality than the older ones, but what pisses me off is the people talking while the band is playing.

I love Cometbus and everything musical he's done (the simpler and dumber the better), but he always strikes me as a little off-time and over-reaching. It's like he's too into it to give a crap about a steady tempo. |
