Jazzbreaker produces Jawbreaker jazz/big band tribute

Jazzbreaker, a rather unusual project, has put together a series of Jawbreaker covers recorded in the style of big band or jazz. All the instruments were performed by Joey Coloroso and the songs covered include "Boxcar," "Kiss the Bottle," "Want," "Chesterfield King" and more.

Admittedly it's a risky venture but no matter what, I'm sure we'll be better than Jawbreaker (or Jazzbreaker, for that matter)!

I'm not really sure how all the "fantasy____ league" thing works, but how about this: Fantasy PunkNews League.

Each participant picks a super group consisting of 5 members of their 5 favourite bands. Then, each time a news article is posted on the .org involving the bands you have chosen for your "team", you get a point or a radish or something else of little value.

Then, at the end of the punk season, we all drink PBR and have chicken fights at the Fest?

Also, the winner gets one of the American Apparel ad girls.

As far as they go for me, they were seminal in how lyrics and punk rock could really go together. Not in a Clash kind of way, but revealing more of what was behind the curtain in terms of emotion.

With pop punk, a lot of it is perfect, to slightly off-key voices singing something that when really broken down, are generic approaches towards dealing with issues of dealing with girls, or having a bad day, etc.

Jawbreaker came at it with literary influence, were a gateway band not only for fans, but for bands themselves (Larries, Lucero, Alkaline Trio, Hot Water Music) who've all had significance within a particular community.

In a lot of instances, Blake voice was something completely different. It's probably the gruffest voice I've ever heard, and to me that was just kind of like, "Hey, instead of worrying about perfect pitch, this guy is fo

Baldsteve might be more qualified to answer this question but probably either Bivouac, or 24 Hour Revenge Therapy because it's where they really began to hit their stride, I think.

Dear You also might be a good starting block because it's a lot more of a commercially accessible album (it was their only major label release). Kind of dipping your toes in, before going all in.

Lots of people would say 24 Hour Revenge Therapy to start with, and I can't disagree, but Unfun works too. Those two are my favorites, but definitely get Dear You as well. It sounds different, yeah, but it's a fucking masterpiece. No music has ever hit me in the same way those songs do.
