That's a drag. I had high hopes for the time that I would eventually go there because I like the idea of a venue on an island that I can access easily.
If you're referring to last Summer with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, I don't know what you're talking about.
We showed up, got a free bus-ride to the venue, watched a good show (MMB) with great sound, it was OUTSIDE(!!!), and then got to leave and be home early before the boring band came on (coughDKMcough).
3) The Vic
2) House Of Blues
1) Congress Theatre- the worst venue I've ever been to in my entire life, including seeing shows in 30 other states and multiple venues in several of those states. Congress takes the fucking cake.
Well, number 3 necessarily ain't a bad thing.... most of my hatred towards The Vic is their treatment of bands and their merch. Sound and sight ain't too bad.
I couldn't agree more. I hate the Congress with every part of my being. I've seen some great bands ruined by the horrid sound of that place. House of Blues is pretty shitty too.
The "relevant" criticism that gets thrown around on this site always seems to stupid; i mean, if you want to talk about "relevency" shouldn't we all be listening to what AP tells us to?
Man, I wish my parents would let me go to a punk show. But all they say is "No your too young" Shut the fuck up. I'm 13! I think I can make it in Chicago for a weekend. Goddammit!
And for all of you that read this and go "His parents are right, he's way too young to go to a punk show." Is it me being irresponsible, or is it you just not trusting me?
Hmm, first time I saw the Offspring, it was in 1994 with Guttermouth and Big Drill Car in a VFW hall with 200 kids. The last time I saw the Offspring, it was 2001-ish with Live, Everlast, Papa Roach, Orgy, Disturbed, and a shitload of other terrible crap in the United Center with 10,000 fucking hipsters. The 1994 show was awesome. The 2001-ish show? Not so much...
I agree with the Mellencamp part, but at least Springsteen has been on a Mike Ness record and constantly name drops bands he likes, which usually are punk bands. Besides, if we are banning them, no more hip hop.
and I like hip hop. I am just tired of people having issues with a website that trys to broaden the horizions of its readership. Punknews is primarily a site for, and about punk music. With that said, if a news story is important enough that enough people on this site will care, why not post it?
If the flooding is getting worse and worse, and it's attributable to an increase in temperature over the last several decades, I see no problem with his assertion.
They can't even get one consistent opener for the entire tour. Its like all these bands will do it because they are friends with the Offspring but none of them really want to so they're like "Eh, I guess we can play a few dates."
id drive to austin to miss this shit and just catch some $2 jagerbombs. im not sure but arent you a local houstonian? if so did you drive to austin for the d4,darkest hour, bouncing souls and cursive at sxsw?
I'm pretty sure Alk3 and Street Dogs aren't on the Philly date. The Philly show on 5/17 is a radio festival thing with ZZ Top/Offspring/Papa Roach/Saliva/Puddle Of Mudd/other shit. I just saw Street Dogs a week ago, and Alk3 will be in Philly on 4/30, so I'm not gonna worry about it.
i dont care, i love offspring, and im really pissed i wont be in the country for the toronto date as (another great band who gets a lot of shit for always putting out the same album) pennywise is opening. fuck, everytime pennywise plays toronto, i miss them.
Both times I saw The Offspring it was lame. Not because of them, although I am not a fan, but because the crowd SUCKED! I went to see the opening bands both times. First time I went to see the Vandals and the Lunachicks. Almost no one knew who the Vandals were and they were totally dumbfounded by the Lunachicks. They were by far the best band of the night and the only thing the small-minded MTV crowd could do was yell stupid shit like "show us your tits'! The second time I went was to see the Joykiller and the crowd just stood there and booed. I had to explain who they were to some moron next to me and how Jack Grisham was a punk before he was even a foetus. DKM (of whom I am a huge fan) is opening for the St Paul stop, so I may go for them. But I don't have much hope for who may be showing up for the show.
For anyone still reading this post and going to the Red Rocks/Denver show, 93.3 is doing a presale right now and tickets are $9.33 (the only way I'd say I'd go to this show). The password is "punk" and you can get them from LiveNation's website.
Not gonna lie. Stoked.
