New trailer from El Nuevo Grupo De Omar Rodriguez Lopez (The Mars Volta)

El Nuevo Grupo De Omar Rodriguez Lopez, the new band from Omar Rodriguez Lopez of The Mars Volta, have posted a trailer for their forthcoming debut. The record is titled Cryptomnesia II and is due out May 5, 2009.

Along with the Mars Volta guitarist, the band features frequent collaborator (and Mars Volta bandmate) Cedric Bixler Zavala, Zach Hill of Hella, Jonathan Hischke and Juan Alderete de la Pena.

There are also rumours that the Mars Volta will be releasing a new full length in June. It would be the first since The Bedlam in Goliath and is currently titled Octahedron.

Craig Robinson and Jason Mewes are spot on as always, but it just doesn't add up to much. I'm not laughing too much and Kevin Smith's scripts take a lot of lazy shortcuts.

Yea...that movie should've been a hell of a lot better. I was a bit disappointed with it. It really didn't even have any of the really witty dialogue that Kevin Smith scripts used to have.

Pretty much how I felt right there. I wanted to see them do something other than an Apatow flick, and unfortunately I got it. It pretty much came off as doing a seventh American Pie movie or something.

Anyway, I enjoyed it. The actual romance was about as convincing as Dick Van Dyke's cockney accent, but there were enough decent jokes throughout to make it worth watching.

Agreed, it's like Kevin Smith phoned it in big time and just substituted half-baked vulgarity for actual scripting. I can't really put my finger on it but it just seemed like a poor facsimile of a Kevin Smith movie. I probably would've spent my time better had I gone to a pizza buffet for an hour and a half. Then again, pizza buffets trump most other things.

i dont know, i liked it. i liked almost everything kevin smith has touched. his best, in my opinion, was dogma, clerks 2 being a very close second. overall id say it was a 8/10

There were some wiiiild rumors floating around SXSW about "big news" coming from the Mars Volta camp. People seemed to be insinuating that the At the Drive-In guys were at least talking...

Anyone know anything more about this? Need to know if this is just a tease or legitimately bonerrific.

This shit ranks right up there with Coheed & Cambria for sheer douchebaggary. Years ago this guy I knew said that seeing the Mars Volta was like watching God. I equated it to a bunch of pretentious artsy burnouts dicking around on instruments. Who's right?

i've seen them live and id have to say overall they were ok. i didnt know any of their music, but goddamn their lead guitar is fucking amazing live. if he's dicking around on the guitar, then id like to hear what he's really got. this coming from a long time guitar player. i'll say it, he's the best guitarist i've ever seen live. damn i might regret saying that once i think about it, but i'll stick with it for now.

I've always really enjoyed anything Omar has had a hand in and mars volta is no different. The show I saw of theirs was phenomenal, but I think it often depends on the crowd for any band with such a pretentious following. See them in the wrong city and it can be terrible. But yes. Gods.

claro que si...espero que hubiera un grupo de punkrock indigena. Imagina, 3 o 4 Mayas o Aztecas gritando sobre injusticia y la lucha por derechos en alguno de los sistemas mas opresivos en todo el mundo. Pero en Guatemala por lo menos solo hay grupos de metal que les encantan hatebreed y meshuggah, que cancionan sobre la brutalidad y el diablo como los grupos estadounidenses. que lastima....

i went to a system of a down show couple years back and mars volta opened for them. all i have to say is damn their guitarist is beyond amazing live, the dude can fucking play. dont care for their music at all but gotta give credit where its due.

this dude is so prolific. I can't believe the sheer amount of solid material he puts out. This will be is like 3rd album so far this year.
