Saves the Day announce new guitarist

Saves The Day have announced a new guitarist to replace long-time member David Soloway who left the band last month. The band has recruited Arun Bali as the band's new guitar player and backup vocalist.

The band will be hitting the road with Alkaline Trio on April 18th.

I make it a point to express my pure hatred for this band since I used to love them so much before In Reverie came out. It's not even a matter of me being too punx to appreciate a new style, their music just fucking blows now.

I don't think it fucking blows, I just think they kind of found their place and stopped sounding like other bands as much. I thought Sound the Alarm was really really good.

Couldn't respectfully disagree with you more. I took In Reverie out of my CD player and threw it behind my bed so I wouldn't be reminded of how one of my then favorite bands got to the point of no return.

You thought that was too bad? Too bad is the fact that I just never got into Alkaline Trio and I hear nothing but good things about them. So I have no valid opinion. I've been meaning to get into tons of bands I should have a long time ago lately. Where would you suggest starting with Alkaline Trio?

1st, Goddamnit, so you can hear what they started out like.

Then, for more fast and fun songs, From Here to Infirmary.

Then, either Maybe I'll Catch Fire or Good Mourning. Most of those songs are more slowed down and thoughtful, so you'll probably be able to appreciate them more if you have a better knowledge of their older stuff. Lots of people would say that Maybe I'll Catch Fire is better than Good Mourning, but really I think Good Mourning had some better written stuff on it, though it is more polished sounding.

Then, get Remains, which is all their b-sides and shit. There's some really cool stuff on there.

Avoid Crimson and Agony and Irony.

Remains is my favorite group of Alkaline Trio songs on one disc. I could listen to it straight through.

I really don't think Crimson is as bad as everyone says. The whole first half is darn near perfect "mature" trio. And there are lots of gems on Good Mourning... like 'every thug needs a lady." Also, Agony and Irony has "I Found Away" and the first three songs. I personally don't think anything passed "Maybe I'll Catch Fire" deserves more than a 7/10 punk news stars. Goddamnit is a 9/10 to me and fire is easily a 10.

Oh, give me a break. STD's FIRST album sounded like Lifetime. On TBC, they completely blew Lifetime out of the water, and SWYA sounds like nothing else released at that point.

Also, don't half the bands you listen to either sound like Hot Water or Springsteen?

Well, I was just saying how he didn't like their newer sound but enjoyed their older. It was just a joke.

Also, I listen to four bands that sound like Hot Water Music and only one that sounds like Springsteen. I highly dislike Bruce Springsteen. Check my music profile.

Seriously, though, the whole "Saves The Day sounds JUST like Lifetime" stems only from their first album, and I highly doubt anyone would ever want them to go back to that.

so you could say you are "through being cool" with this band. i agree with you though. never loved them but they went from being okay in 2001 to hoooorrible ever since.

unlike this other guy, i am stoked for the new album. saves the day's song writing as gotten so much better over the years.

No. Their music turned to shit. Boring riffs. Generic lyrics that lack any of the personality, ingenuity, wordplay or complexity of their early-to-mid era songs. Chris's voice turned to passionless, high-pitched crap when he got the vocal coach.

There are so many different reasons this band sucks now. Just because a band changes stylistically does not always mean they have grown or that they have gotten better.

Yeah, I never got into them either. By the time I heard their older stuff, Lifetime already started doing reunion shows, and when I heard their newer stuff I just wasn't impressed.

I liked every band playing except for The Bronx, but I still didn't go. It bums me out when relatively uknown bands have late shows on weeknights, I'm only willing to wreck the next day of work for someone I really like.

i have no idea how anyone can believe saves the day has gotten "better" over the years.

they were doing find until sound the alarm, and then chris's voice went to shit and eben left. sta and under the boards are terrible records. the music is ok, but chris's vocals are just terrible now.

I prophesy this as the end of this band; that said...

Saves the Day has been my constant go to band (along with hopesfall) as a glorious analog for the maturation process i think we all have gone under since we were 14. There is no one out there (minus the posi-core "crew" kids) who can honestly say that there musical taste and preference hasn't evolved an iota since their teen-age years. I think this band reflects that transition well. The first two albums on Equal Vision are pretty similar...slick, primal, fun.
Stay What You Are is a dramatic departure, kind of like when you finally get to college and realize High school is dead and gone, and you want to try something different.
In Reverie is that girl you met at the party who looked good with the beer goggles on and your friends still give you crap to this day.

STA is an attempt to synthesize all the albums prior to it without leaning to much on the "shtick" from the first two, the sucess of the third, or the "maturation" of the forth. And seriously, how can you say any album with "Bones" isn't any good. That's a very fine song. Probably their strongest to this day.
Under the Boards is ok for the first 4 tracks, but kinda goes a little too far after that.

All this goes to say that this band has changed, much i the same way im sure you and I both have, and for myself personally, it's pretty cool to put on that record that "feels like 14" and then have another record, by that same band (sorta) that "feels like now" spin within a hour or two of one another.

If you want consistency, go listen to all the records hatebreed has put out since 02. Then around the last track of rise of brutality tell me how much fun you're having.

I don't want a band with boring sonic consistency, but I do want one with consistent quality.

It's a logical fallacy to assume that, if a band changes styles completely and someone doesn't like it, they're complaint is with the style change itself and not the drop in quality of a band at the top of their game drastically changing what they're doing and failing at it. Hell, if anyone had a complaint with style changes in and of themselves, I doubt you'd see any STD fans defending SWYA.

Also, the band that grew with me was Ghoti Hook. And they managed to only get better.

I remember that tour they did with MxPx and some other band that broke out (cant remember atm). Now MxPx...there's a band to debate. I really dig secret weapon. Panic was a let down..as was thier 2 before that. Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo and everything else before that...Absolute gold...eat it up with a spoon.

Saw Saves the Day in Australia not so long ago (twice) - Dave Soloway looked so uninterested during these shows, i'm not suprised to see him quit the band. In fact, Dave looked about as uninterested as most of the crowd present!
