While their first single is not (officially) set to appear till later this week, Green Day has posted the lyrics for the entirety of their forthcoming album. The record is titled 21st Century Breakdown and is due out May 15, 2009.

Disappointed to see that Mass Hysteria is not, in fact an old Social Distortion song. Woulda sounded cool too. 3+ Replies

didn't they originally say their next album wasn't going to be a concept album? and didn't they say they were not going to make another rock opera? or was that my chemical romance? ahh who cares 4+ Replies

This is like the opposite of hype, every story I read about this album gets me less and less excited for the albums release. Green Day is trying way too hard to be an arena rock band. I liked it better when they didn't try but they were still playing arenas (Dookie-Warning era).I don't want a sprawling rock opera super album from Green Day. Does anybody who has been a longtime fan actually think this is the best musical approach for them to take? 5+ Replies

I want to be excited for this but I just can't seem to get there. What a bummer. 4+ Replies

Umm Horseshoes and Handgrenades is already a band, Dillinger Four already wrote the riffs for American Idiot, Know Your Enemy is a song by Rage Against The Machine AND The Code, the 21st Century shit was already overdone by Bad Religion, and you suck. Fools.

i prefer this rock opera. 3+ Replies

Bands shouldn't do this (release lyrics for an album that's not out yet, that is). It's lame. 1+ Reply

after looking through these lyrics...would it hurt them to show any optimism? this looks like an apocalyptic-emo-dark-political album that is going to make people commit suicide 4+ Replies

This will be the first Green Day album that I have no desire to buy. I'm not even curious as to what it sounds like. 1+ Reply

I will never hear this album other than the snippets of the singles the radio plays between me changing CD's

Live 105 fired their morning crew for playing 30 seconds of the leaked single. And then the station put said single into heavy rotation. And now I don't have a morning show. Suck it. 2+ Replies

Blah. Green Day hasn't been any fun since Warning, and even that's a stretch. And now with all their fans being replaced by teenage girls...even their concerts aren't fun anymore. And what is with this new album? The guy who did the cover is a complete Banksy wannabe.

Did they really just take a website for every single song title they have?

Billie Joe was never quite Elvis Costello, but is it me or are his lyrics really, well, poor? Looking through this, it's just a series of words that rhyme and sound a bit edgy. Some of GD's older stuff had some awesome little one liners and nice turns of phrases, but this just feels a bit hollow.

interesting how they registered a bunch of domains for their lyrics. Maybe they wanna be found in google before any of those cluttered lyrics sites ;P 1+ Reply
