NOFX perform tracks/interviews for MySpace's 'Transmissions'

NOFX recently visited Myspace Music's Transmissions studios to record a session. The set includes "Fleas", "The Quitter", "Hold It Back", "I'm Telling Tim" and an acoustic version of "My Orphan Year". The set also features interviews of the band and crew.

You can watch and download the sessions here. NOFX are set to release their upcoming album Coaster on April 28, 2009.

it really bums me out to not be excited for a new nofx record. i've been into these guys for probably 13 or 14 years, but they have just gone off their shit.

the tegan and sara song isn't even funny, its just fucking creepy. the fuse show was just a bunch of 40 year olds with wives and kids using touring as an excuse to do hard drugs, and the last time i saw their live show -- well you know the story.

It's their most Bad Religion-esque record so far. Solid, no filler, and at least 5-6 very good songs and a couple of masterpiece. Pretty different from the Wolves-7inchesmonth period, and also from the War on Errorism/Bush period.

I think you should give it a shot...

This record is growing on me, but I think Wolves might be better... it's catchy but it has some of their worst lyrics yet.

I really liked Pump Up The Valuum. That record would have almost been their best if they'd called it the Decline and made the Decline the last track (ala Subhumans "From the Cradle to the Grave").

Pump Up The Valuum is the first nofx cd I got into, so I can't really rank it with the rest. Just like Double Plaidinum. I like them both a lot, probably more than if they weren't the first I had heard by either band.

Best God in Show is up there with God Song for my little mental list of atheist anthems.

I like this album, it's like So Long... or H2O's new one. Short and sweet. I'm glad there's no filler/joke songs too.

I actually really like this record. Think its pretty solid and i find myself listening intently to the lyrics. while some might be stupid like the sarah song, others like orphan year are intense and first call is kind of a cool story to think about. for me, most times i listen to music, i dont even know what the lyrics are meaning, they coulld be sayng anything. but with nofx, i often find myself listening to the story and liking the melody too. good mix of fast punk, slower ska, etc

Is singing about how you don't believe in god any better than singing about how you love him? I'm really curious. I tend to dislike both, because they come off as preachy and "holier than thou" no matter what (well and Christian rock is fucking awful in general).

Exactly. They still had political tones, just not as preachy. Nowhere, Perfect Government, and Reeko were all political, just not as annoying preachy-type songs. Franco Un-American is fucking annoying. It's only amusing when it's the live version and he changes words for fun.

I did like The Irrationality of Rationality though. All in all, the Errorism/Wolves stuff is good, jut not as good as Punk in Drublic or So Long or White Trash, Ribbed, etc...

They should have given up on political songs after writing The Decline. You can't top that song.

You're so off base it's insane. The Decline was written in 1999, before THE DECLINE of rational America. Musically it's a masterpiece and I still rock it, but it was politically outdated in 2 short years.

I like preachy NOFX because noone else out there has the balls to be so anymore (at least not with the finesse they do). Too many bands, including the underground, play it safe as to not upset anyone.

I don't think I've used the word "preachy" since like 8th grade either. If someone is stating an opinion abrasively, it's obvious they feel passionately about it and don't give a shit about the grey areas that the uncaring wrap themselves in.

There is a clear distinction between true christians and false christians. A religious organization that advocates war is not christian. They are a group of hypocrites and by definition are not christian because they do not pattern themselves after Christ.

Don't stereotype people. I agree that Catholics and other orginizations are responsible for untold death in the name of religion but they are fakes.

Being atheist is absolutely not the same as believing in god. I don't have to be "sure" to know there isn't a god anymore than I don't have to be "sure" there isn't a pink elephant floating above my head right now. It's pretty safe to assume through all logic and reasoning it's just not there. Come Judgement Day, I'll gladly eat my foot. Until then, there's absolutely no reason other than being culturally conditioned, and not really all that far from primal man on an evolutionary scale to believe in a man in the sky.

It's not "preachy" to me if it makes sense, there's only 2 religious songs on the album, and they're catchy just like the rest of the songs which range from singing about beer to Iron Miaden to discarded useless technology at a flea market.

So no, they are not annoying to me and fit fine with this album.

I didnt mean "fresh" in the context of their material, NOFX always sounds like NOFX. What's fresh are the ideas NOFX use to keep their fans interested. EXAMPLES: Half-FX, 7" of the Month Club, letting fans submit artwork for their records, the Backstage Passport tours, the new 10 inch covers vinyl, adding Decline to their setlist, bringing back old members to play shows, etc etc.

Instead of putting out the same 'ol records and setlists - they keep it interesting. I love that about them!

I've only heard "Sara" (mediocre) and The Quitter (more like it). The diversity in opinions of this record is amazing. I've very curious to finally hear it. It's NOFX and they have credit w/ me, so I feel safe in buying it when it comes out only having heard a couple songs.

i think alot of people would disagree with you. i think new maps of hell, and coaster are pretty good. they're no suffer, or punk in drublic, but you can't put out your best record everytime. maybe you should just stick to whatever flavor of the day you are into and then you won't be so dissapointed

these guys were NEVER good. That one song-I can't even remember the name of it was catchy-however even that was a piece of crap. These guys are in the same boat as good charlotte, simple. I guess they get a "free pass" because they tour with indie bands and some of their members claim to be straight edge.

My Orphan Year is a powerful song from the heart. You could see the tears in his eyes at the end.
So stoked to be seeing NOFX and Bad Religion in concert together in a couple of months.....
