Against Me! to release "The Original Cowboy" on Fat this summer

Fat Wreck Chords has announced that they will be releasing The Original Cowboy by Against Me!. The record, made predominantly of never-before-heard demos were recorded at Goldentone Studio in Gainesville, FL with Rob McGregor on July 15th, 2003. The session was scheduled prior to Against Me!'s trip to Memphis' Ardent Studios where As The Eternal Cowboy was recorded.

Tom Gabel explains the decision to go to Ardent:

Having already recorded our first full length album and two previous EPs with Rob at Goldentone, we wanted to do something different for our second full length. We specifically wanted to make an all analog recording with as few overdubs as possible which is what we could do at Ardent. With Rob McGregor coming along to produce, we wanted to make sure he was familiar with the songs, so we made this demo recording.

Recorded and mixed in only a couple of hours, The Original Cowboy was only meant to be a trial run, but, listening to it today, there's a part of me that feels foolish for ever recording these songs a second time."

The record is due out July 7, 2009.

i'm 24 and after a shitty breakup went from 180 to 166 pounds. i've stopped losing weight but i am still a little flabby. how can i harden up my mid section. crunches seem to be working only real slow and really it's not that much. i drink a lot of beer. is my only option to quit all the booze. i do lots of running. 4 miles 5 times a week. any suggestions on how to stop this plateau i've hit and get a little more hard/lean?

Yeah totally.

What you can do is look to portioning. Instead of eating one full meal, cut it in half and make two meals out of it but have them 5-6 times a day. If that takes up too much time, you could use meal replacements. You can buy them at GNC, they consist of a good proportion of carbs-fat-protein and are only about 350 calories. What eating small, portioned out meals will do is speed up your metabolism.

I also completely recommend weight lifting. This is also another activity that burns calories but will also help you keep any muscle you have without burning it (as long as your eating enough protein). When someone cuts down, they lose fat first but if someone is losing more than 2 lbs a week, muscle is also being lost. By working out and eating protein, you will limit your amount of muscle loss and build muscle in the future once you decide

Beer is a complete killer. I'm striving to be down to 10% body fat myself but beer has nothing but empty calories. I'm a college student so I know what it's like to have a drinking lifestyle. Cut to light beers like Bud Select. But honestly, I'd stick to hard liquor instead. It often has less calories than beer does and you get drunk faster. If liquor is your plan of attack, stay away from fruit-based liquors or sweet liquors (snapps, whisky, Baileys) and shoot for Vodka or Gin. If drinking, try not to add things like grenadine or juice. Those two are full of calories and carbs.

If you're completely sincere about it, cut off beer all together. Water is the best drink you can have. Not only does it hydrate you (great for flushing your system out) but it has absolutely no calories). Sodas and juices have many calories in them that people don't realize. You can also switch to eating lean meats like chicken, tuna, fish, or turkey instead of eating hotdogs and burgers.

i lost 60 pounds from 275 to 215 over about 2 years. all i did was switch from beer to diet soda and liquor, switch from mostly coffee to mostly green tea, and switch from playing tiger woods to walking 18 holes. i still eat alot of garbage though so i can't lose the last30 or so. got more pussy when i was fatter though.....

TV is in desperate need of more good shows like Night Gallery, Masters of Horror/Sci Fi, Tales from the Crypt. Why is it that all new shows like this suck? Masters of Sci Fi only had four episodes and they were all terrible.

Has anyone heard of a "pub run" before? It pretty much is running five miles, but the caveat is that you stop at 5 or so bars along the way, imbibe some shots, smoke some cigarettes, and then continue running.

I am strangely intrigued by this....

Anyways, i gotta question for you guys. How many of the users here download a pretty large amount of their music? I'm just wondering. I don't know what is considered "large" so i guess thats why i'm thinking about it. I have downloaded music for a long time now and you know, as much as it sucks, sometimes it persuades me to NOT buy an artist's music. And forgive me, but I think thats pretty awesome I can figure that out from the luxury of my own computer. But don't get me wrong. I buy music. But you know what, most of my favorite records, I downloaded before I bought them. I know most people here are similar to me, but I know we got some people who think its still ridiculous and stupid. Whats the verdict?

I really don't download all that much music anymore, save for some live/rare stuff. On a rare occasion i'll check out a leak, or i'll sample something new. But in the age of of streams/youtube i really don't need to know if i'll like something before i pay for it.

The verdict is that you have people all across the board who feel they can justify wherever they stand. It comes down to being a personal morality issue, and what each person's defintion of stealing is. I'm not sure it can be broken down much further than that.

I pretty much only download stuff that I've given up on finding in the store, stuff that is only on vinyl (I don't do vinyl) or stuff that's out of print. Or stuff that's put out for free llike the samplers posted on here or stuff like BTMI.

The only leaks I've downloaded were Blackhawks Over Los Angeles, My Older Brother Used to LIsten to Lagwagon and CIVIL WAR. I've since bought two of these and will buy the other eventually.

My favorite way to get music though, is at a show. It's usually cheaper and more of the money is likely to go directly to the artist. It's a win-win situation.

I usually only download the teaser or sample mp3 tracks from the labels these days. I just don't like being without a physical copy - no liner notes and the sound quality is usually shit. Plus I feel bad. A few years back I downloaded TL/RX's The Tyranny of Distance, and it's awesome and all, but I still feel a bit guilty about it b/c it's Ted Leo, not frickin' Kanye or someone like that.

I've never listened to an Against Me! record. The only two songs I know by the band are the two I bought for Rock Band. I like those songs. They're really good. I even downloaded the entire Against Me! discography a couple months ago. I just never listened to it.

I'm not sure what the point of this is, but I just got back from the bars and some girl punched me in the fucking stomach.

Start with As The Eternal Cowboy. I think it's not only the best, but the easiest to get into. Some would say Reinventing, but I disagree. Besides, alot of the songs on that one have better versions on Crime/Acoustic or other places anyway.

Yeah. There's a divide amongst long-time fans of the band on both that one and Searching for a Former Clarity. I fall into the camp that liked both, but Cowboy is much better imo. Searching has some amazing songs, but has more filler than their other albums. Crime is more raw, but fantastic. The acoustic EP is great. Actually, I often forget to count it because it's only 3 songs, but Disco Before the Breakdown is really my favorite of theirs.

What really got me full-on into them though, was seeing them live.

The played a couple years ago when I went to Warped. I think they've played several of the last few, I just have only gone that once since 2001 or so. While the last couple times I've seen them have been New Wave heavy, they dig into the whole catalog, and almost always play at least something off each album. Really, other than a few songs on Searching and maybe Beginning in an Ending, almost any song seems to be fair game depending on what they feel like doing in a given night. Too bad Rise Against can't be like that.

Please. Big D & The Kid's Table is one of my favorite bands, I've seen them live around 10 times (which is quite a feat considering I live in OK). And they never play any songs that predate the Gypsy Hill. It's like they pretend all their previous albums never even existed.

I sadly don't even own either of their albums, I just have a few songs and listen to them whenever I can on lastfm or other places. Never was able to pick them up at a store and I rarely order music online. I always hoped I'd pick one up in a used bin or at the store, but nobody that actually bought Osker gets rid of it and my local store has terrible selection.

Such a great band though.

Them and No Trigger are probably the two bands I like the most that I don't actually have any of their albums in my collection (yet).

I know most of The Punx Brigade considers Animal to be about Raoe, but I proffer that's because most of them have either never had sex or allowed themselves to have the kind of mutual consentual sex that is basically crazy fun times. These are all from Eternal Cowboy. Fat might have the rights to these demos. I don't know if Sire can say boo about that.

Anyone know what all the colours / pressings were in the end? I got a pink and murky red, I've seen black and white... I heard there's 10 in all?

So was the Rise Against 7" an April Fool's gag? I'm not a fan but just wanted to throw in a theory... Fat is in some trouble and seems to me like they are calling in some favors.

That's pretty crackpot, but that's what it seems like to me. Fat is still my favorite label, so I hope it isn't

Sure i download, but I actually buy the music too. If I like it. I mainly buy my music at shows. But that's because I'm just not into the mailorder thing. If I like a band I will give them money straight out, no merch or records just because they are on tour.

How many Org-core kids just nutted themselves on a completely pornless site?? (i think the comments were at like 170 so the line is at 240 because everyone came twice on this one)..The story goes like this: My bro walked down to my room in my mom's basement and caught me jacking...completely un-phased he picks up one of my 800 copies of reinventing Axl Rose (specifically the rare blue vinyl with yellow poka dots), looks up and goes "Oh yeah I saw the Against Me! post too, after you blow want to go to Starbucks and talk shit about the gaslight anthem?"
