Saves The Day to reissue "In Reverie"

According to a post in the Q&A section of their website, Saves The Day is gearing up to reissue their polarizing major label debut, In Reverie. Frontman Chris Conley explained:

Tentatively, we're planning to re-release In Reverie with 12 extra songs which didn't make the record. demos and whatnot. Zeebs & Sister Sophs and all that shit, Blossom and what have you. All that. Then more. Mos Like. Maybe Knought (not). Prolly Like. Lovee Spike.

They released Under the Boards in 2007.

Interesting. Sounds like they should just release a bsides record or something instead though... I don't want a second copy of an album that only came out a few years back.

For the record: I didn't hate this album. I just didn't treat it as a record by the same band that made Through Being Cool, because it wasn't.

Absolutely not the same band. I thought that Stay What You Are was a good balance between trying something new and still keeping their old vibe and I was stoked that that would be their style from then on out. But this album and the other 2 that followed were just terrible.

when a band "experiments" with their sound, and that experiment pays off with some great songs that people really enjoy and help them gain "fame", how can you not expect them to keep experimenting? or at least moving in that direction?

on a similar note, Saves the Day is one of the better bands i've seen live.

I saw Gaslight Anthem at Coachella this weekend. The crowd was pretty weak and basically only a couple hundred play-it-safe nerdy people came out to watch them. I would've gone to see Fucked Up but the people I was with weren't up for a rowdy crowd so we made do with Gaslight.

When I saw Gaslight the crowd was pretty awesome. It was rough, but not that stupid rough when people just start kicking people for no reason.

When I saw them the first time in Boston, it was pretty rowdy, too -- a lot of dance-pitting. I didn't expect it to unfold that way at Coachella, though. The crowd there only got rough for stuff like No Age and Fucked Up. It's funny how much slag people on this site have been giving Gaslight for turning into a "hipster" band when really the hipsters are "too cool" for them. They did well, but while most bands had people lining up half hour before their sets and rows of people extending tens of people back, Gaslight barely had anyone up front within 5 minutes of their set and when it ended, I walked abour 4 rows back out until I found myself in open air with people just sitting around.

I bought this album when it first came out. I was excited to hear because I really, really liked Stay What You Are. I listened to about 10 minutes of In Reverie and decided that it was the worst piece of shit I'd ever heard. This record is unfuckinglistenable.

No no no. I LOVED Stay What You Are. and I think this guy feels the same way. But In Reverie wasn't anything like it. I can hardly explain it. I just thought it was bad music.

Did you ever fucking listen to SWYA? THAT's your idea of skate punk. It's not only a logical fallacy but incredibly aggravating that you cannot conceive of any reason someone might hate that album other than their preconceived notions. If I listened to music that way, I'd have given up on STD with Stay What You Are, and I sure as hell wouldn;t have given them another shance with Sound The Alarm. You might like In Reverie. That's okay. People are dumb enough to like shit like Phish, too. But for the rest of us, we'll listen to an album without forced "professional" vocals, drug-addled overly-simplistic lyrics, sub-weezer guitar riffs and not a single catchy melody.

Seriously. If everyone else hates an album, and you like it, you might not want to think the whole rest of the world is wrong. That's not to say you're wrong for liking it, but maybe admit t

go listen to in reverie again with an open mind, and yes, it is indeed a very good album. it is unique -there's really nothing else quite like it. and it doesn't get old, in fact it gets better

allow me to translate.....
1)The 3rd part of the "epic" trilogy of Saves the Day's rebirth has now gone down the tube because David S decided to not waste away his life remembering how much people loved his band 10 years ago.
2) the trash they submitted to Vagrant got a big fat red rubber HELL NO stamped onto it. 3)They have figured out how to fulfill their contractual obligations to a dead label...and can now ride into the sunset on the worst possible note.

As a total fan boy of this band...i absolutely hate in reverie. It's just a terrible album with mostly filler tracks and an attempt (much like the past 2 cursive albums) to sound "intentionally different/annoying in hopes of novelty."

these comments are highly misguided.

1) this may be true, but is highly speculative.
2) they are label-less right now. vagrant can't rubber stamp shit.
3) again, THEY ARE NOT ON VAGRANT. under the boards and sound the alarm were both single album contracts. no label has the power to tell them their shit stinks.

in reverie is out of print. it was on dreamworks and dreamworks tanked. hence, the reason for this reissue. look for it on itunes... you won't find it.

i think it's awesome that they're adding so many bonus tracks to it. gives people who didn't like the album an extra incentive to check out what could have been. plus, coconut, a b-side from this album, is quite possibly one of the best saves the day tracks put to tape.

I like In Reverie, although I hated the shit out of it when I bought back in...what, 2004? As long as you listen to it as a pop record and aren't expecting "You Vandal Pt. II" it's awesome.

I think it's important to reissue In Reverie since Chris apparently can't use his fingers anymore. What the fuck is up with that message? "Lovee Spike"?

I like them because they're basically Lifetime, and there's nothing wrong with that. They have some great riffs, especially on Through Being Cool. Only difference is the vocals, and I really like his voice. The lyrics are pretty original too.

People who didn't like this record when it came out might want to try listening to it again. It's damn good. It's not supposed to be like the STD songs before it. If they'd ended their careers with this record they would've been better off.
