King Dork movie adaptation status update, release date for follow up

Frank "Dr.Frank" Portman of The Mr. T Experience and more recently, of the critically acclaimed young adult novel King Dork, has posted an update on the film version of his book. In late 2006, the book was "optioned" for a film by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay:

Practically every conversation I ever have with anyone eventually gets around to this question. What they're wondering about is the status of potential King Dork film. For some time now I really haven't had much of an answer.

as unlikely as it seemed, a new deal was reached just this week. The King Dork movie: it lives. This time around it is Sony Pictures. Same producers (Gary Sanchez.) Seth Gordon, the guy who did King of Kong, is attached to direct. This doesn't necessarily mean it'll get made but it is way more likely than it was last month.

Frank continues to work on his next novel, Andromeda Klein. The book is due out August 25, 2009.

Anyone read this book?

I thought it was pretty good and would be a good book for high school freshmen to read.

I enjoyed it. I hope the new one is just as fun.

Also have fingers crossed that this movie turns out better than "I Love You Beth Cooper". That looks like a misfire.

I don't think they would teach it at schools though, what with the blowjob scene in it and all.

Cera seems to be a one trick pony as an actor, but I don't think he was bad in Arrested Development, Superbad or Juno (I also haven't seen him in anything else though). I don't get all the hate for this guy.

The only other actor I can think of that might be cast for the role is Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

I don't hate him, I actually enjoy his movies etc. but I think an unknown actor would be better in this role.

As long as they don't leach casting from High School Musical or something, I think they'll do ok. The casting pool for teenage dork characters is bigger than Seth Green and Matthew Lillard at least.

i don't know if i hate him or the movies he's in. the whole awkward character bit does nothing for me.

He wouldn't be a very good lead, I love him as George Michael... but he's very VERY one-note.

he is one note............so far. Edgar Wright cast him is Scott Pilgrim, whos nothing like Michael Cera's previous characters. Edgar has nailed every other character in the adaption so i have complete faith that he knows what hes doing by casting Cera. I really hope he breaks free of his typcasting.

I know nothing of Scott Pilgim because I can't get past the art, it looks like dogshit. I love Edgar Wright though so I'm a bit torn. Would like to read the screenplay

i hate anime and anime type shit as much as the next sensible person but, after a couple pages i got over it. I really like the comic (though the ending to the first book kinda sucked) so i have high hopes for the film. also from what i see on this site: http://edgarwrighthere.com , its gonna be awesome.

Thats cool that will ferrells team of botards isnt gonna do it, thats a relief

i hope Land of the Lost flops terribly and will ferrell is forced to do shitty sitcoms for the rest of his life.

I'm going to see Land of the Lost because I grew up with it and the Sleestaks look PERFECT. I don't care one way or another about Will Farrell.

I hope it does really well so other Sid and Marty Kroft shows get made into films--HR Puffnstuff, Lidsville, Sigmund and the Seamonsters.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Will Farrel is a talentless hack. He is pretty much the Dane Cook of comedy films. Yeah, I know Dane Cook does movies too, but those don't even count.

Dance of Dragons by George RR Martin. It's release date has also been pushed back several times though, so I'm not holding my breath on either.

I loved this book; probably read it 4 times in the last couple years. Highly recommended & I hope the movie doesn't suck. Stoked for the much-delayed Andromeda Klein.

strange that no one i know liked the book. i tried reading it but had trouble paying attention to it, i'd lose interest after a chapter or 2

Awesome book! I really hope it works out. With all the movies coming out like Adventureland lately, it would fit in perfectly.
