Picking up where they left off in 2007, Punknews.org will again be represented at the 2009 San Francisco AIDS Walk. While no staff have been confirmed yet, the current team features Punknews readers, staff from Fat Wreck Chords and Mike Park of Asian Man Records.

They are two different shows. I love the UK version, and agree it is a better show, but the American version is one of the best shows of tv.

I did a breast cancer walk this past Sunday and there were people drinking at the 8 AM start time. I still haven't figured out whether it's awesome or horrible, but leaning towards horrible.

Which one? I was at the one in Beverly, along Longwood. I always forget about all those fucking RIDICULOUS houses over there.

Somehow drinking with my mom at 8 AM on a Sunday morning in the bright sun doesn't seem too attractive to me. We were joking around that this will probably become the new South Side Irish Parade next year with yuppies bussing down from Lincoln Park to get blitzed by 8 AM.

Yup, that's the one I was at. Those houses are insane man. I went with a couple girls I know. Kind of fucked up that people see it as an opportunity to get shitfaced at 8 am. Only reason I wanted to was because I was really hungover from Sat night and that was the only way I could think to get rid of that feeling.

While we're on the topic of diseases...

Does anyone on the Org have Multiple Sclerosis? I've been diagnosed with CIS (clinically isolated syndrome), which is basically the first stage of MS. It's scary shit and I was wondering if anyone else on here has this or knows much about it.

Some research suggests I should cut out all dairy, gluten and booze. Fuck me.
I also get to start injecting drugs into myself on a daily basis. Good times!

one of my good friends has MS. he still drinks and does drugs, eats cheese and basically makes no changes to his lifestyle whatsoever.

he does however randomly get the shakes and such which is probably doing permanent long term damage.

It's too bad I live in TX, because I guess MS is helped a lot by medical marijuana. Montel Williams has MS and he's a huge supporter of it. Hopefully Obama will help get medicinal use easier to get.

So if that's the drug your friend does it could be helping him. The drinking not so much. I dunno if I'm gonna cut out gluten, but dairy won't be that hard.

He smokes a bit of pot but he's more of a pill guy. He does drink pretty regularly though which I'm sure is not helping his situation. He hasn't had any big scares though so hopefully it stays that way.

I don't know a whole bunch about MS but I'm assuming it's normal that it comes in waves like his does.

I have a friend with MS and it helps her a great deal. Luckily, medical marijuana was just legalized in Michigan last election.

Yeah, I'm about to get on medication which will slow it way down and i caught it super early so I'm hoping in the next 10 to 20 years they'll have a cure or at least much better treatment options.

two of the last 3 women i have dated had close family members with ms, and one of my closest friends does as well.

its a pretty awful disease, and to be honest, there is a part of me that would rather see this one eradicated than aids. but thats probably because i have been touched by this disease with no less than 4 people in the past few years, while, as far as i know, none of my friends have aids.

i'm training to do a century ride this summer from raleigh to wilmington for ms. i feel for you dude.

Yeah, it's really scary. I've been doing research, but I'm almost scared to read too much. I can easily become a hypochondriac and start imagining symptoms.

How long has your friend had it? Do you know what he's doing to treat it?
Mine started with Optic Neuritis, which was almost a blessing in disguise because it helped me find out I had the disease. Otherwise I might not have known about it for years.

my friend got diagnosed about 4-5 years ago. similarly, they caught the MS early, and the medication is controlling it very well. aside from the medications side effects, he claims and seems to be pretty normal.
also seriously, why does MS seem to affect the nicest people, and never the jerkiest. i'd never wish it on anyonne, but hell. how awful.

my im is in my profile if you ever want to talk to someone sympathetic to you. i'm sure you're getting a lot of support from your friends and family. or at least, i hope so.

It's good to hear that the medication is working. I am a little scared about the side effects, but it should be worth it. God bless modern medicine!

I'm trying to be positive and I keep thinking that there could be many worse things that could have happened to me.
Yeah, friends and family are helping a lot. My poor Mom is freaking out and losing sleep over it. I keep trying to reassure her that I'm gonna be fine (fingers crossed!).

I'll hit you up sometime. I've been handling it ok so far, but there are times when it feels really overwhelming. Thanks so much for the support. It helps a lot.

lol! yeah, but I was planning on going vegan anyway, so that part won't be so bad.... the no booze part is gonna fucking suck. What am I supposed to raise when I'm up front rocking out at shows? A cup of water? Oh well, at least I still have the greens.

If it's any consolation, my friend with MS was diagnosed over 10 years ago and with her meds (and green) is doing very well. She drives, works, goes to shows, etc. with very few problems. And considering the advances in treatment and the looser restrictions on stem cell research, I'm sure it's going to be even more treatable in the coming years. BTW, she also drinks a bit, but the meds "enhance" the effects, sort of the same way an opioid will. Anyway, best of luck to you.

Thanks. That's fucking great to hear! I know the medical advances are gonna get better and better. They recently had a study where they found favorable results using adult stem cells. I'm staying very optimistic.
