SSIRY is one of their best for sure, I learned it on guitar as fast as I could. I LOVE Illusion of Safety, it might be my favorite of theirs, if not tied with Fire/Water. Earth/Air kinda disappointed me, it was just okay. And Vheissu was great when it came out, but it hasn't really held up as much as I would like it to. Artist was fantastic. So I'm kinda all over the place, but nonetheless, I love the band. If I had to pick just one song that's my favorite, it'd probably be "Firebreather". Incredible, even the live version gives me chills. I can't believe you like new Thrice but not new Brand New.

You don't have to forget about Vheissu that much but its recommended. and most of all you have to forget about how punk you are. or how metal you are. or how indie you are. You just have to listen to it in hopes of hearing good music. And when I say good music. I mean well structrured. Good melodies. Good production. Good musicianship. And you get just that when you listen to The Alchemy Index. It's just absolute genius at times. I won't go into great detail about each album. But I will say that Water>Earth>Air>Fire. And I could understand how anyone would put it in different order. Fire is by no means bad. Firebreather and The Messenger are easily top 5 songs over all the cds. I just felt it was the weakest. And if you didn't see this change coming from Thrice, you haven't been listening hard enough. It was easy to tell just in Illusions Of Safety that they have way more talent than the average band. But think about it. How many bands do you listen to have can say what Thrice has? With each cd, Thrice has matured and given a diffferent sound. They have never produced the same CD with a different title like tons of bands do. Not saying that all other bands suck, but for a band to be able to do that is really incredible. I really have no idea where Thrice is going from here. And I don't know if i've ever felt that way with another band.

I will take the time to talk about a band called Brand New. I listened to Brand New back in 2002 when Your Favorite Weapon had recently been released. I'm not saying "Fuck you, I listened to them first, i liked them before you so you suck." It was straight pop punk. Bad yet terribly catchy pop punk. And it was great. I was also really into Saves The Day and New Found Glory at the time so I was expecting to hear more of the same from this not so talented pop punk band. But the postal service came around. So did a few other indie acts. The change from Your Favorite Weapon to Deja Entendu was one of the fakest(is that a word?) things I have ever witnessed. Everything sounded incredibly forced. And it just resulted in a bad attempt to have that unnatural indie rock sound that for some reason still being looked at as unique music to listen to. You could possibly make the same case for Thrice. But as I said, they showed genuine maturity with each album to get to the point they are at now. How can you call Brand New genuine when on YFW they had lyrics like "This isn't high school!" or "Your just jealous cause we're young and in love!" or the pathetic teenage girl favorite "I know that your a sucker for anything acoustic." Sorry Josh, but I don't buy it. Haha bring up the fact that I listened to Matchbook Romance at some point. Hell yes I did. But then they suffered the same that Brand New did. Did you ever hear the song Monsters? Good lord. Same with Saves The Day. Their last 3 albums have been a horrible attempt to indie power rock and it just sounds god awful. But hey, listen to who you want. I won't think any less of you. This is my opinion that really doesn't mean anything. Listen to Thrice.

and listen to A Wilhelm Scream while your at it.

Now, I don't know about you, but I'm 23, and in the last 5 years, I have grown as a person so much more than I ever have in that amount of time. Especially as a musician, I can tell you my lyrics have grown in leaps and bounds. Musically, I'm sure they wanted to keep some of their pop-punk influence, at least for one more album, and it worked for them. Jesse probably had more freedom after being signed to let out his inner Morrisey, and so that sound came into play too. I didn't think it sounded forced at all, I thought it was (and still is) the best rock record released that year. Then, they released The Devil and God, and I was in all honesty, fucking blown away. The minor misstep on that album (Not The Sun) was overpowered by every single other track on there. Every song is a powerhouse, every lyric hits you with more passion than a Polanski film, every guitar riff is absolutely killer. The drums alone on that record are astounding. I couldn't have asked for a better album from them. Now don't get me wrong, I love YFW more than any other pop-punk record except Through Being Cool. But there is no Brand New like brand new Brand New.

You know the funny thing is I kind of agree with this(as far as the maturing process). But it's just one of those things to where the freshman in high school inside of you won't allow yourself to forgive them for such a transition. At that time, Deja was way too mature for me. I loled at the Morrisey comment. Oh and you forgot Perhaps I Suppose by Rufio.

I kinda know what you mean, I get mad at almost every band for changing (Taking Back Sunday broke my heart with WYWTB, even though I can somewhat enjoy Louder Now). But I got into Brand New a little before Deja came out so I didn't have a huge history with them or anything. Then it got released, and I had both albums, and they fed both sides of my rock appetite. I never got too into Rufio for some reason.
